With the new model, Hyundai expects to revamp the current Verna’s dwindling sales.

Hyundai India has officially released a teaser image of the upcoming third-generation Verna on Twitter. Expected to arrive in India sometime in August 2017, the new model is all set to replace the existing model, which has been on sale in the country since 2011.

The teaser doesn’t reveal much, it only gives a vague look at the new Verna’s front fascia, with Elantra-like long DRLs and the Hyundai insignia dominating the picture. At this point, Hyundai has even refrained from revealing the name of the upcoming new car, with the teaser just quoting ‘New Generation Arriving’.

While the Indian arm of Hyundai may tease this as a mysterious new car, the new Hyundai Verna (called Accent/Solaris internationally) has been on sale in some global market for a while now. Therefore, we exactly know how the new model looks like inside-out.

The 2017 Hyundai Verna gets its design inspiration from Hyundai’s Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 philosophy, and therefore features a large new grille with chrome slats and swept-back headlights at the front. The rear section now features long tail-lamps with LED pattern inspired by both - the bigger Elantra and the smaller i20.  The side profile is reminiscent of the current generation model.

On the inside, the cabin has been completely revamped, and takes a lot of inspiration from the Hyundai Tucson. A new 8-inch infotainment system, which is expected to feature both Android Auto and Apple Car Play, dominates the new dashboard. Given that the new Hyundai Verna is 30mm longer than the outgoing model, we assume that its cabin will be more accommodating. Also, a very likely change for the Indian model will be the brown and beige treatment for the interior, as opposed to the international car’s all black cabin.

The new Hyundai Verna will be propelled by a familiar bunch of 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines which power the current model. However, the dated 4-speed automatic gearbox available on the bigger engines is now predicted to finally make way for a 6-speed torque converter unit.

When launched, the new Hyundai Verna will lock horns with the segment best sellers - Honda City and Maruti Ciaz, along with other mid-size saloons like Skoda Rapid, Volkswagen Vento and Fiat Linea.
