Hyundai has released a teaser video and a few images for the Insteroid Concept, a futuristic design study inspired by the Inster EV. Set to make its global debut in early April, the Insteroid Concept embodies Hyundai’s vision for urban electric mobility, blending innovative design with advanced technology. While details remain scarce, the teaser hints at a boxy, compact silhouette, likely carrying over the Inster’s micro-SUV proportions. The concept is expected to showcase Hyundai’s evolving EV design language, possibly featuring bold lighting elements and a tech-focused interior. Given the Inster’s anticipated role as an affordable urban EV, the Insteroid Concept could provide insight into Hyundai’s future direction for small electric vehicles, highlighting efficiency, sustainability, and connectivity in a compact yet futuristic package.

In its official press release, the South Korean carmaker explains that the name “Insteroid” combines “Inster” with “steroid,” symbolising the concept’s powerful, bold, and energetic character. The teaser images showcase a dramatic departure from the standard Inster, with a completely reworked front bumper featuring aggressive aerodynamic elements, a sculpted hood with additional airflow channels, oversized fender flares with integrated air vents, and massive 21-inch wheels with aerodynamic covers.

The rear design is equally striking, incorporating a redesigned bumper with an oversized diffuser to enhance aerodynamics and a prominent WRC (World Rally Championship)-inspired wing. The signature rear lighting setup from the Inster remains intact, including two prominently positioned circular taillamps at both ends and the distinctive pixel LED illumination.

The Insteroid concept heavily draws inspiration from the world of gaming, incorporating subtle nods to the iconic Pac-Man video game in its design. Teaser images shared by Hyundai’s design chief, Simon Loasby, reveal that a Pac-Man-themed graphic is integrated into the instrument cluster. Furthermore, a teaser video hints at the inclusion of a well-known antagonist from the game, fuelling speculation that such elements may be featured in the final version.

A glimpse of the cabin also reveals a roll cage, hinting at a motorsport-inspired interior. The cabin also boasts a WRC-inspired vertical lever-style hand brake.
