India-Bound Volvo EX30 Gets 5-star Safety Rating from Euro NCAP: Watch Video

The EX30, Volvo’s smallest electric SUV, has earned a 5-star safety rating in the most recent round of Euro NCAP crash tests. While the Swedish automaker has yet to make an official announcement, the EX30 is expected to be available in our market by next year. In the adult occupant protection category, it scored 35.3 points or 88%. During the frontal deformable barrier test, the EX30 provided minimal protection for the thighs of the front occupant, but other body areas were generally well-protected, ranging from good to adequate. The full-width frontal stiff barrier test demonstrated strong protection for front-seat passengers. However, rear passengers showed a limited protection rating for the chest, as the dummy registered high compression levels during the evaluation.

The EX30 delivered a strong performance in the side mobile barrier test, offering good protection overall, though it fell short in chest protection during the side pole impact evaluation. The SUV's design was praised for its structural integrity, and the inclusion of a front-center airbag played a key role in preventing head injuries by stopping the dummies' heads from making contact.

The EX30 received a high rating for whiplash protection, showing that occupants could exit the vehicle by opening the doors and windows even if the car was submerged in water.

Volvo EX30: Child Occupant Protection and More Explained

The compact electric SUV scored 42 points, or 85%, for child occupant protection. In both frontal and side-impact tests, the 6- and 10-year-old occupants had good protection. However, the absence of a child presence detection system resulted in the loss of points.

In terms of Vulnerable Road User protection, the car scored only 79%. It dropped scores as certain of its automated safety features weren't activated by default. Except for the area close to and on the A-pillar, the EX30 provided good to adequate protection in the event of a collision with a cyclist or pedestrian.

While the autonomous emergency braking system performed well in most scenarios, it was downgraded for not having rear pedestrian protection enabled by default. The EX30 received an 80% rating for its on-board electronic safety systems, with almost all of the systems operating correctly.

Volvo EX30: India Launch

The EX30 will likely make its way to India in 2025, with an estimated starting price of Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). It will go head-to-head with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and offer a premium option against the BYD Atto 3.
