Jaguar Land Rover has revealed plans for a new Land Rover Defender as the company has applied for the Defender name trademark renewal.

The Land Rover Defender will make its return with all new modern off-road sophistication and is expected to be dropped by Land Rover no earlier than 2019. This has been revealed after jaguar Land Rover applied for a renewal of the Defender name trademark.

JLR had applied for the renewal in the European market in May earlier this year and has applied for the same in the Philippines earlier this month. Both applications are currently pending, but are expected to be a approved allowing Land Rover to revive the endeared off-roader.

The latest generation of the Defender is expected to be a far more superior and modern vehicle with 21st century technology allowing to be a more capable, comfortable and practical off-roader when compared to the old car.

More details have not yet been revealed regarding the project as a whole, but it is expected that JLR might employ their Special Vehicle Operations division in the development process.

The original Defender was born as the Land Rover Series as an off-road vehicle that was deployed for the British army during the second World War in the year 1948. The Land Rover series was produced until 1985 when the vehicle was replaced by what the modern world knows and loves as the Land Rover Defender. After a full 67 years in production, Land Rover announced in 2013 that the production of the Defender would end and on January 29, 2016, the final Land Rover Defender (H166 HUE) rolled off the production line to end the Defender’s legacy. Now However, Land Rover might just bring the old Defender back as amore modern-esque version.
