Jetour T2 Gets 5-Star Rating in ASEAN NCAP; India-Bound JSW SUV to Share Platform

The Jetour T2 SUV sold under Chery Automobile has earned a 5-star rating in the ASEAN NCAP crash tests. The model is widely anticipated to serve as the donor model for the first car of JSW Motors for India. A design patent for the SUV has already been filed here, and JSW has teased the silhouette of its upcoming model, which appears to be similar to the T2’s styling. That said, the India-spec version will have JSW branding and a different nameplate. It will also serve as the first product from the JSW–Chery partnership and the company’s first launch independent of MG Motor India. The SUV is expected to arrive in India around Diwali 2026. Here’s a closer look at the crash-tested model that could form the basis of JSW’s first offering in the country.

Jetour T2 ASEAN NCAP Crash Test Rating Explained

In the Adult Occupant Protection category, the Jetour T2 scored 29.74 points out of a total of 32. The score includes 13.74 out of 16 in the frontal impact test, and a full 8 out of 8 in the side impact test. The SUV also earned the maximum eight points for its head protection technology. In the frontal offset crash assessment, the T2’s occupant compartment showed stability. Meanwhile, the dummy readings highlighted that the driver’s chest area gets adequate protection. That said, the left leg of the driver received marginal protection. The effectiveness of the head protection system was confirmed through an additional deployment test and evaluated using the Fitment Rating System (FRS).

The Jetour T2 secured 40.63 out of 51 points in the Child Occupant Protection category. Breaking it down, the SUV achieved 15.62 out of 16 in the frontal impact test and 8 out of 8 in the side impact assessment. It also earned 9.02 out of 12 points for child seat installation compatibility, while the vehicle-based safety criteria contributed 7 out of 13 points. Additionally, in the Child Presence Detection (CPD) evaluation, the SUV scored 1 out of a maximum of 2 points.

The SUV also performed well in the Safety Assist category, with 18 out of 21 points. It achieved full scores in Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and Seatbelt Reminder (SBR), while its Autonomous Emergency Braking system managed 1.25 out of 2.5 points in city driving scenarios and 1.75 out of 3.5 points in inter-urban conditions. The SUV also secured the maximum 3 points for Advanced Safety Assist Technologies. Meanwhile, in the Motorcyclist Safety assessment, it scored 13 out of 16 points, with full marks for Blind Spot Detection, pedestrian protection, and Advanced Motorcyclist Safety Technology, while Auto High Beam received 1 out of 2 points.

The Jetour T2 model comes equipped with six airbags, rear seat occupant detection, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), seatbelt reminders for both front and rear occupants, Blind Spot Detection, pedestrian protection, Child Presence Detection, and ISOFIX mounts for child seats. Additionally, it offers a range of advanced driver assistance systems as optional equipment, including AEB for pedestrians and motorcycles, Autonomous Emergency Braking for city and inter-urban scenarios, Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Keep Assist, and Auto High Beam.
