JSW Motors is set to launch its first car in India, marking a foray into the market independent of its joint venture with MG, according to a media report. The forthcoming car is said to be the Jetour T2. JSW Motors has reportedly collaborated with Chery (a Chinese automaker behind the Jetour brand launched in 2018) to introduce the SUV in India under a JSW badge. Production will take place at the greenfield plant in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar, Maharashtra. The Jetour T2 is likely to hit showrooms by the third quarter of this year. Here’s a closer look at what the T2 SUV brings to the table.

The Jetour T2 has a rugged, adventure-oriented look. The upright, Defender-like stance, with a unibody structure, gives it a strong and purposeful road presence. Moreover, the boxy, muscular silhouette sets it apart from softer, more rounded urban SUVs. Key highlights include a prominent grille flanked by square-shaped LED light units, squared-off wheel arches that accommodate large alloy wheels wrapped in all-terrain tyres, roof rails, and side steps.

The T2 measures 4,785mm in length, 2,006mm in width, and 1,875mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,800mm.

The Jetour T2 comes loaded with modern technology, consisting of a large 15.6-inch central touchscreen, a high‑resolution digital instrument cluster, multi-colour ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof. The SUV also offers a Level-2 ADAS.
JSW Motors is said to bring the T2 SUV in India, featuring a 1.5‑litre plug-in hybrid powertrain. The exact details on the India-specific specifications aren't out yet, but the upcoming variant is likely to be offered in both AWD and FWDconfigurations.
Globally, the T2 i-DM uses a 1.5‑litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine with 154bhp and 220Nm, and a plug-in hybrid setup with two front-mounted electric motors to deliver a combined output of 221 bhp and 390Nm. The SUV houses a 26.7kWh battery pack, allowing it to cover up to 139 kilometres (NEDC cycle) on pure electric power.
