The Kia Sonet GTX+ Diesel AT is priced at Rs 12.89 lakh (ex-showroom), meaning it's a whopping Rs 4.65 lakh less than the Seltos GTX+ Diesel AT, which features the same 113bhp/250Nm 1.5-litre diesel engine and 6-speed AT.
When Kia launched the all-new Sonet compact-SUV last week, the company didn’t reveal the prices of the top-end automatic variants of the vehicle. However, the company has now announced the pricing of the Sonet GTX+ petrol and diesel automatic versions, and both are priced identically at Rs 12.89 lakh (ex-showroom, India).
With the prices of the top-end variants out now, the top-of-the-line Sonet AT versions command a premium of Rs 90,000 over the top-end manual versions. The interesting bit here is the pricing of the 1.5-litre diesel AT version. Not only is it priced the same as the 1.0 DCT variant, it’s also a whopping Rs 4.65 lakh less than the Seltos GTX+ Diesel AT (Rs 17.54 lakh, ex-showroom) and Rs 4.32 lakh less than the Hyundai Creta SX (O) Diesel AT (Rs 17.21 lakh, ex-showroom), both of which basically pack the same engine and gearbox combination as the Sonet Diesel AT. Even in terms of features and equipment, the Sonet GTX+ Diesel AT is as well-equipped as its elder sibling.
While the Sonet Diesel AT’s price is impressive, the same can’t be said about the Sonet GTX+ Petrol DCT. That’s because it costs Rs 1.26 lakh more than the Hyundai Venue 1.0 SX Turbo DCT (Rs 11.63 lakh, ex-showroom), which has the same drivetrain. Sure, the Sonet has more features on offer, but that’s a big difference in price.
Coming to the powertrains on offer in the automatic versions of the Sonet, the diesel version gets a 1.5-litre four-cylinder unit that’s mated to a six-speed torque converter. The engine develops 113bhp and 250Nm of torque. The petrol version features a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo unit that’s good for 118bhp and 172Nm of torque. It’s paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The Kia Sonet competes with the likes of Hyundai Venue, Ford EcoSport, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, and Toyota Urban Cruiser.
