Lexus has launched the ES 500e in India at Rs 89.99 lakh (ex-showroom), and this one feels like a natural move. It is the new eighth-generation ES, but more importantly, it is now fully electric. The ES has always been known for its smooth and quiet nature, so switching to an EV setup fits right in. It also arrives in India soon after its global debut and continues alongside the hybrid versions already on sale. For buyers looking at a calm, premium sedan with an electric setup, this now becomes a serious option in the segment.

The design is cleaner than before. The usual spindle grille is gone, replaced by a smooth front section that suits the EV setup. Up front, you get L-shaped DRLs that give it a sharp look without trying too hard. The overall stance still feels familiar, so it does not move too far away from the ES identity.

At the rear, there is a full-width LED light bar that stretches across the boot. It adds a modern touch without overdoing things. The car is also larger now, measuring 5,140 mm in length with a 2,950 mm wheelbase, so there should be no complaints about space, especially for rear seat passengers.
Inside, it sticks to a simple layout with more screens and fewer buttons. There is a 14-inch touchscreen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Most functions are controlled through touch, which keeps the cabin clean.

You also get a Mark Levinson sound system, head-up display, electrochromic glass roof, reclining rear seats, and multi-zone climate control, making it clear that comfort is still the main focus here.
The ES 500e gets a dual-motor setup with Lexus Direct4 all-wheel drive. It makes 338bhp, which is plenty for a big sedan like this. Lexus claims 0 to 100km/h in about 5.9 seconds, so it is quick when you need it, but still tuned for smooth driving.

The battery is a 74.7kWh unit, and charging looks manageable. It supports DC fast charging up to 150kW, which can take the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in around 30 minutes. Lexus says it can do up to 580km on a full charge.

It is built on the TNGA GA-K platform, now adapted for electric use, and continues with a multi-link rear suspension. With the ES 500e, Lexus steps into the luxury EV sedan space in India and goes up against the usual German and European rivals.
