A production-spec version of the Mahindra BE.05 has been spied while undergoing testing close to Mahindra Research Valley on the outskirts of Chennai. The images of the same have been doing rounds on the internet ahead of its official debut. Currently, the company sells the XUV400 EV in our market. According to industry reports, it will consolidate its position in the EV segment by launching a new BE (Born Electric) range. Considering the spy shots, the Mahindra BE.05 could be the first model to be launched under the new BE sub-brand. For starters, it was displayed in the UK in August 2022 and then in our market in February 2023. According to the spy shots, the model seems to follow the concept form. However, the flared wheel arches seem to have been toned down, and the front sports the new LED light signature. Additionally, classic ORVMs have taken the place of rearview cameras. Here's what the spy shots reveal about the upcoming electric model by Mahindra.
Mahindra BE.05: What Do the Spy Shots Reveal?
According to the spy images, the spotted electric SUV is similar to the concept showcased earlier. It has the same C-shaped LED daytime running lamp seen in the concept. However, there are some minor tweaks, including straightforward styling sporting fewer cuts and creases on the external panels and toned-down huge wheel arches. In terms of appearance, the production-spec version mirrors the SUV-coupe styling of the concept. Mahindra has not officially released the specs of the production version yet. However, market reports hint that the SUV could be dimensionally the same as the concept, i.e. 4,370mm in length, 1,900mm in width, and 1,635mm in height. It might also feature a similar wheelbase of 2,775mm.
Mahindra BE.05: Powertrain
Mahindra has not disclosed any specific detail regarding the powertrain options. However, we do know that it will be developed on the INGLO platform. It could get single-motor and dual-motor configurations. Speaking of acceleration, the EV is expected to do a 0 to 100 km/h run in 5-6 seconds. Industry reports state that the automaker will have a variety of batteries with capacities between 60 and 80kWh. A 175 kW fast charger will likely charge the batteries up to 80% in 30 minutes.
Mahindra BE.05: Launch Timeline & Market Competitors
As mentioned, Mahindra has not officially revealed anything regarding the electric SUV, but industry rumours hint that it could be introduced around October 2025. In India, the new BE.05 SUV will face fierce competition from the upcoming Tata Curvv EV after the launch.
