Mahindra Scorpio N Pickup Truck Concept Officially Teased Ahead of August 15 Global Debut

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) recently confirmed that it will debut a new pickup concept on Indian Independence Day, continuing its usual pattern of announcing new products on the 15th of August every year. The homegrown carmaker teased the Global Pik Up Vision on its social media accounts, suggesting that it will be a concept pickup truck modelled on the popular Mahindra Scorpio N. The upcoming pickup truck's front grille and back profile are hinted at in the teaser, which implies that it is related to the Scorpio N. The company's twin-peaks insignia is featured on the grille, while a preview of the rear profile highlights the deck lid and LED tail lamps, which are the design focal points. Besides, the teaser also gives a sneak peek at the alloy wheel design and the large tyres it will be sporting.

Mahindra Scorpio N Pickup Truck Concept: Platform and Mechanical Details

The upcoming pickup truck, codenamed Z121, will be built on the Scorpio N platform but will have a wider wheelbase to allow for a bigger cargo bed. For comparison, the pickup model of the Scorpio Classic, known as the Getaway in India and the Pik Up in South Africa and Australia, has a wheelbase that is extended to slightly over 3 metres. Prior to the release of the Scorpio Classic, the Mahindra Scorpio Getaway of the previous generation was still available for purchase in the Indian market. The Scorpio Getaway was later updated by the manufacturer and launched based on its predecessor's model in overseas nations such as Australia and South Africa.

Speaking of the design elements, similar to the Scorpio Getaway, the truck will likely have a double-cab body design with a tray rear bed. It will be powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged gasoline engine and 2.2-litre diesel engine options as the Scorpio N. Furthermore, the Scorpio N's features may or may not be carried over into the brand-new Global Pik Up Vision production vehicle. The single-pane sunroof of the concept car is confirmed by the recent teaser, though.

Mahindra Scorpio N Pickup Truck Concept: Expected Launch and Rivals

Notably, the production version of the model is expected to arrive by early 2025. When it goes on sale in 2025, the Global Pik Up Vision will offer a reliable and reasonably priced alternative to pickup category mainstays like the Isuzu V-Cross as well as the Toyota Hilux. Although pickup truck sales in our country seem to be stagnant and Toyota is slashing prices drastically to get its models out of showrooms, Australia and South Africa are two markets where the new model can prove to be a success.
