Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-Door vs 3-door Model: What's Changed?

The much-awaited Thar five-door dubbed the Mahindra Thar Roxx, has finally been released by Mahindra. The Thar Roxx and the Thar three-door indeed have identical names and stylistic elements, but the differences between the two vehicles are probably far greater. So let's take a look at what makes the new Thar Roxx stand apart from its smaller sibling.

Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-Door vs 3-door Model: Dimensions

Starting with dimensions, the new Thar Roxx is 443mm longer, 50mm wider, and 79mm higher than the three-door Thar. Its dimensions are 4,428mm long, 1,870mm wide, and 1,923mm tall. Next up, the wheelbase of the Roxx is 400mm longer than that of the standard three-door Thar.

Compared to the Thar three-door, the new version appears significantly larger. It does, however, borrow certain styling cues from the SUV currently on sale. It receives LED fog lights, LED projector headlights with daytime running lights, and a reworked face with a new grille decked out in the same colour as the body. Still, the front looks a lot like the Thar three-door. The Thar five-door has a few creases on the side, a recognisable C-pillar, door-frame mounted handles, substantial wheel arches, and newly styled alloy wheels. The homegrown carmaker also gave it updated bumpers and taillights. On the other hand, the Thar three-door keeps its halogen headlights, black grille, and standard door handle positioning.

Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-Door vs 3-door Model: Price Details

The Mahindra Thar 3-door petrol model ranges in pricing from Rs 14.30 lakh to Rs 16.99 lakh. Simultaneously, the diesel variants range in price from Rs 11.35 lakh to Rs 17.60 lakh. The Mahindra Thar Roxx's petrol variants, meanwhile, vary in price from Rs 13 lakh to Rs 20 lakh, while the diesel variants, including the RWD automatic, are priced between Rs 14 lakh and Rs 20.50 lakh. Even though the prices for the 4x4 versions have not yet been revealed, they will likely reach over Rs 25 lakh.

Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-Door vs 3-door Model: Engine and Gearbox Options

Two diesel and one turbocharged petrol engine options are available for the Mahindra Thar 3-door: 1.5-litre CRDe diesel, 2.2-litre mHawk diesel, and 2.0-litre mStallion petrol. The 1.5-litre engine can be only had with a six-speed manual gearbox, however, the other two diesel engines provide the choice of an automatic or manual gearbox.

On the other hand, the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines of the new Thar Roxx are offered with manual or automatic gearboxes. Notably, four-wheel drive is only available with the diesel drivetrain.

Mahindra Thar Roxx 5-Door vs 3-door Model: Feature List

Several new features have been added to the Thar Roxx to help it stand out as a lifestyle SUV in addition to an off-road vehicle. Thus, among other things, there is a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 10.25-inch fully instrument cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Adrenox connected car tech, panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, automatic temperature control, Harman Kardon sound system, rear bench seat, electronic dial for 4WD modes, front armrest, and leatherette upholstery. The 3-door version lacks all these features. Furthermore, the Thar Roxx is equipped with ADAS (Level 2) features, unlike the 3-door model.
