The specification details for the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS have been leaked online.

Powered by a 998cc, 3-cylinder turbocharged engine, the Baleno RS is expected to be launched in India very soon. Prior to its launch, technical specifications of the engine have been leaked online.

The engine is badged as the 1.0 BOOSTERJET which produces 100bhp at 5,500rpm and 150Nm of torque at 1,700 – 4,500rpm and will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The output figures are slightly lower than what is available from the same engine that powers other Suzuki cars in international markets. The car also has a kerb weight of just 950 kilograms.

The down tuning of the engine is most likely for better fuel efficiency for Indian conditions and consumer demand, in addition the engine is expected to be more efficient that the 1.2-litre petrol engine from the standard Baleno.

As for styling the basic structure remains identical to the standard Baleno, however, front and rear bumpers have been slightly restyled for a sportier look to differentiate it from the rest of the pack. Options of 15-inch and 16-inch alloy wheels will be on offer with the rims having blackened finish. The interior cabin will be similar to the standard car, however the seats will be available with leather upholstery with “RS” logo embossed on the back rest with a blackened steering wheel and centre console.

There is no confirmation at the moment if the Baleno RS will be offered with an automatic gearbox. However, if offered, a 6-speed automatic is expected in the top end model.
