Mercedes-Benz has revealed the beefed and jacked up E-Class All-Terrain estate ahead of the vehicles global debut at the Paris Motor Show.

To rival the Audi A6 All-Road and the Volvo V90 Cross Country, Mercedes has also injected some steroids into its E-Class estate and thrown in an all-wheel-drive system as well for good measure. The result is the Mercedes-Benz E-Class All-Terrain.

Mercedes will debut the E-Class All-Terrain at the Paris Motor Show which will feature the same 2.2-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine from the E220 d that churns out 194hp and will also offer the E-Class All-Terrain with a V6 diesel later as well. The E-Class All-Terrain will come with a the 9-speed automatic 9G-Tronic gearbox with both engine options with power being sent to the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.

The steroid injections and jacking up of the standard E-Class Estate has given the vehicle SUV-style two-fin grille with the star integrated in the centre, a more beefed up front and rear bumpers, plastic cladding on the flared wheel arches in addition to plastic cladding on the side skits as well. These styling additions not only allow a more robust vehicle, it also gives the car a meaner and sportier look to separate it from the standard estate.

The car’s ground clearance has also been lifted by 29mm from that standard estate and with the Air Body Control it can be raised and lowered up to 35mm higher than the original setting. The overall ground clearance of the E-Class All-Terrain is 121mm at its lowest setting and can be raised up to 156mm.

We at autoX love such vehicles which give us an excuse to go off-road and would love to see them on Indian roads. But due to the unfortunate irrational loathing estate cars have received from the Indian market, we may never get the E-Class All-Terrain.
