MG Astor to get AI & Level-2 autonomous tech

MG Motors India has given a glimpse into the upcoming Astor. The new product from MG will step into the mid-size SUV segment, with a few first-in-segment features.

MG Motors India has confirmed that its upcoming SUV, the Astor, will come equipped with personalised Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology. Further, the MG Astor will get Level-Two Autonomous active safety tech. Both features will be a first-in-segment.

The Astor will be positioned below the Hector in MG India’s line-up. This will make it an apt rival to the Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, and the upcoming Volkswagen Taigun, both in terms of styling and pricing. We suspect that the entry-level price point of the MG Astor will be under Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom), while the completely kitted out MG Astor, with autonomous driving and AI tech, will most likely see a price tag of Rs 15 – 17 lakh (ex-showroom). Expect the launch of the MG Astor by the festive season. It will be available with a petrol unit and, most likely,  a diesel engine. 

The artificial intelligence tech is equipped with ‘Natural Language Processing’ and ‘Natural Language Understanding’. MG claims that this interactive system mimics human behaviour, making the user feel that he/she is in a conversion with a person instead of a robot. The AI will assist the user in navigation, and even read out the online news. Star Design, part of the Star Global Group, has helped MG develop the AI tech for the Indian, as well as, the international market.

The MG Gloster full-size SUV debuted with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System). With the MG Astor, the brand has taken the tech a notch above and equipped the new mid-size SUV with Level Two Autonomous active safety tech. The MG Astor will come equipped with features such as Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Speed Limit Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Intelligent High Beam Control.

The Astor will get MG i-Smart Hub, which is also on offer with other MG products. The i-Smart system in Astor will allow customers to get access to a host of onboard applications, like Saavan, Map My India, and Park+. The i-Smart hub will also give access to personalised services such as insurance, food delivery, entertainment, and security, to name a few. MG Motors India has tied up with Jio to provide connected car tech for the Astor.
