The niche segment of open-top sports cars in India has just got bigger with the new MG Cyberster — an all-electric, two-seater roadster. Although the Cyberster doesn’t have any direct EV rivals, comparisons with established ICE-powered models are inevitable. Today, we compare the newly first-ever electric cabriolet in India with the BMW Z4, a petrol-powered luxury convertible. Priced at Rs 74.99 lakh, the Cyberster undercuts the BMW Z4 (priced at Rs 92.90 lakh, both ex-showroom) by more than Rs 17 lakh. However, each roadster caters to enthusiasts chasing high performance and luxury.

The recently launched all-electric MG Cyberster outperforms the petrol-powered BMW Z4 in powertrain specs. With its dual-motor all-wheel-drive system and 77kWh battery, the Cyberster produces 503bhp and 725Nm. This also enables a 0-100km/h faster acceleration of 3.2 seconds.

The MG Cyberster is a futuristic-looking cabriolet that also nods to MG’s heritage. It gets LED headlights with integrated Daytime Running Lights, a slender nose, and a contoured bumper with an integrated splitter that gives it an aggressive look. The car also features a pair of scissor-style doors, arrow-shaped taillights, and 20-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, all of which round off its look in style.

In contrast, the BMW Z4 Roadster stays true to traditional sports car proportions but with a sharper, modern twist. Its long bonnet and short overhangs create a low, stretched silhouette, complemented by a wide kidney grille, vertically-stacked LED headlights, and large air intakes for a muscular front end. The standard soft-top roof maintains the classic roadster feel, while details like the rear lip spoiler, 19-inch M alloy wheels, Cerium Grey accents, and M Sport brakes reinforce its performance pedigree.

Inside, the MG Cyberster offers a striking multi-screen setup—headlined by a 10.25-inch digital driver display flanked by two 7-inch auxiliary screens. It also gets a separate vertical touchscreen for drive mode selection. The flat-bottom steering wheel with integrated controls, a distinctive center console layout with a driver-focused divide, and high-end features like a Bose audio system, wireless smartphone connectivity, 360-degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS underline its modern, high-tech ethos.

The BMW Z4, on the other hand, opts for a more traditional luxury-sport setup. The dual 10.25-inch display setup is more conventional but neatly integrated, offering intuitive access to key functions.
