The M9 is MG's most expensive car in India to date, which has no direct rivals in its segment. However, it serves as a green alternative to already established names in India's premium and luxury MPV market, like the Kia Carnival and the Toyota Vellfire. While the Vellfire carries a significantly higher price tag, the Kia Carnival is slightly affordable. It is also a closer ICE competitor to the all-electric M9 in terms of size and other features. Let's take a look at how the newly-launched MG M9 compares against its Korean ICE rival.

The M9 and the Carnival are both luxury MPVs with a difference of nearly Rs 6 lakh in their pricing. The M9, priced at Rs 69.90, comes as a single, top-of-the-line electric variant. It targets buyers seeking advanced technology and a zero-emission driving experience.
| MG M9 | Kia Carnival | Difference |
| Rs 69.90 lakh | Rs 63.91 lakh | Rs 5.99 lakh |
On the other hand, the Kia Carnival, priced at Rs 63.91 lakh, is a more traditional and cost-effective option. It comes with a diesel engine and offers everyday practicality.

In terms of dimensions, the MG M9 has the upper hand as the larger MPV. It is 5,270mm long, 2,000mm wide, and 1,840mm tall, with a 3,200mm wheelbase.
| Dimension | MG M9 | Kia Carnival | Difference |
| Length | 5,270mm | 5,155mm | +115mm |
| Width | 2,000mm | 1,995mm | +5mm |
| Height | 1,840mm | 1,775mm | +65mm |
| Wheelbase | 3,200mm | 3,090mm | +110mm |
The Kia Carnival, while still a sizeable vehicle, is slightly more compact, measuring 5,155mm in length, 1,995mm in width, and 1,775mm in height (including roof rails), with a 3,090mm wheelbase.

Though the Carnival remains spacious and practical, the M9’s larger footprint suggests greater interior room and a more premium lounge-like experience, particularly in the second and third rows.

The MG M9 and the Kia Carnival are both feature-rich models in the segment. The M9 stands out with suede-leather interiors, power-adjustable seats with massage functions, a JBL 13-speaker sound system, and advanced EV-specific features like V2L and V2V charging. It also includes Level 2 ADAS, a panoramic sunroof, and a digital rear-view mirror.

The Carnival is equally modern, with amenities like dual sunroofs, a Bose sound system, an 11-inch HUD, and three-zone climate control. It also offers Level 2 ADAS and comprehensive safety features.

Overall, the M9 edges ahead in luxury and innovation, while the Carnival balances tech with practicality and everyday usability.
The two MPVs are entirely different in terms of powertrains. The MG M9 is an all-electric beast, packed with a 90kWh battery and a 242bhp front-mounted motor that delivers 350Nm. MG claims a range of 548 kilometres (MIDC). The car boasts four drive modes (Normal, Eco, and Sport), and a 0-100% charging in 90 minutes using a 160kW DC charger.
On the other hand, the Kia Carnival uses a conventional 2.2-litre diesel engine that produces 190bhp and 441Nm, and is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, sending power to the front wheels. The fuel efficiency stands at 14.85km/l.
The MG M9 has a sealed-off grille, LED lighting, ample chrome accents, and 19-inch alloy wheels, all of which contribute to its premium appeal. It also sports an upright profile and full-width LED taillight.
