MG has entered the full-size SUV segment with the Majestor, prices of which are yet to be revealed. This market has long been ruled by heavyweights like the Toyota Fortuner. The big SUV has built its reputation on durability, strong resale value, and commanding road presence. Now, with the Majestor stepping in to challenge this benchmark, we put the two head-to-head to see how they stack up across key parameters.

MG offers a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel in the Majestor that produces 212bhp and 478Nm, and is paired exclusively with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Buyers can choose between rear-wheel drive (RWD) and four-wheel drive (4WD) configurations. The Toyota Fortuner, on the other hand, relies on larger-capacity engines and a wider choice.
The 2.7-litre petrol (164bhp/245Nm) comes only in 4x2 (RWD), while the 2.8-litre diesel (201bhp/up to 420Nm) is available in both 4x2 and 4x4 formats in the standard Fortuner, with manual and automatic gearbox options. The Fortuner’s 2.8-litre turbo-diesel neoDrive 48V mild-hybrid variant delivers the same 201bhp but increases torque to 500Nm, and is offered exclusively in 4WD automatic.

MG has equipped its new flagship SUV with locking differentials at the front, centre, and rear, along with MG’s M-Crawl system, its answer to Toyota’s A-TRC (Active Traction Control).

The Majestor SUV has 12-way powered, ventilated, and massaging front seats, a 12.3-inch infotainment system, a fully-digital driver’s display, a JBL 12-speaker audio system, 64-colour ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof, and ventilated second row captain seats.

For safety, it offers a tyre pressure monitoring system, six airbags, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS.

The Toyota Fortuner is also well-equipped, offering power-adjustable front seats, an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, reclining second and third rows, an 11-speaker JBL system, and a dual-zone climate control. Safety is taken care of through ISOFIX mounts, seven airbags, ESC, traction control, hill assist, downhill assist, differential lock, and parking sensors.
