BMW has launched the all-new second-generation 2 Series Gran Coupe in India, with prices starting at Rs 46.90 lakh for the base 218 M Sport variant. The top-spec 218 M Sport Pro variant, meanwhile, retails for Rs 48.90 lakh. Both mentioned prices are ex-showroom. The launch comes a few days after the brand’s recent announcement of opening bookings for its most affordable luxury sedan for a token amount of Rs 1.50 lakh. Built on the same UKL2 platform as its predecessor, the model will be assembled locally at BMW’s Chennai facility. Interested buyers can book the vehicle through the company’s official website or authorised dealerships.
While the new model shares the same 2,670mm wheelbase and 1,800mm width as before, it is slightly larger overall, now 4,546mm long (up 20mm) and 1,445mm tall (up 25mm). The boot capacity remains unchanged at 430 litres, offering decent storage for its class.

Design-wise, the car now wears a more aggressive and contemporary look, accentuated by blacked-out trim elements. The front fascia gets a fresh design with BMW’s illuminated kidney grille taking centre stage, accompanied by sleeker LED headlights with reworked detailing.

Under the hood, the updated model is powered by a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine delivering 156bhp of maximum power and 230Nm of peak torque. This engine sends power to the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
BMW claims a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 8.6 seconds. The top speed is set at 230km/h. For added performance, the car features a ‘Sport’ mode for quicker throttle response, along with a ‘Boost’ function that temporarily increases torque for rapid overtaking.
Step inside, and the new 2 Series Gran Coupe now comes standard with the M Sport package. The cabin embraces a cleaner, driver-focused design with fewer physical controls. A large curved glass panel incorporates a 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.25-inch digital instrument display, both powered by BMW’s latest OS9 software and oriented toward the driver for easier access.
The interior also features rich dark mocha upholstery for the seats and door pads, with lighter shades on offer as well. Equipment highlights include a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, remote digital key functions (including pre-conditioning and boot access), a 360-degree surround-view camera, automatic parking, ambient interior lighting, a panoramic sunroof, and wireless smartphone charging.
