A new Mahindra SUV, believed to be the next-generation Bolero, has been spotted testing on Indian roads ahead of its launch. Though heavily camouflaged, the SUV shows a familiar boxy silhouette. It seems to have a refreshed grille with vertical slats, paired with new headlamps. Other details include a flat bonnet, squared-off front bumper, and flush door handles. The rear profile of the test mule has the Scorpio N’s current design language, particularly in its upright and sturdy tailgate. However, the addition of compact, wraparound taillamps, similar to those seen on the Bolero Neo, offers a more contemporary touch. A tailgate-mounted spare wheel remains part of the layout.
The most recent spy shots do not reveal much about the interior, but a peek through the rear windscreen shows multiple headrests, indicating a possible three-row configuration. This suggests the SUV may be designed to seat more than five passengers. However, there is no official confirmation on this matter.
Speculations are rife that the next-generation Bolero may be built on Mahindra’s upcoming new platform, set to debut on August 15. It’s also widely speculated that a near-production concept of the SUV could be revealed alongside the platform on the same day.

While Mahindra hasn’t officially confirmed any details, the new Bolero is expected to be offered with both petrol and diesel powertrains. The diesel option might be the familiar 1.5-litre unit seen in the Thar RWD and XUV 3XO, while the petrol variant could feature Mahindra’s 1.5-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine (first showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo.
While official pricing details are yet to be announced, the next-gen Bolero is anticipated to start around Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). Though no formal launch date has been confirmed, the SUV is expected to hit showrooms by the end of this year.
