With the introduction of the new Creta facelift in the Indian market, Hyundai, the prominent South Korean automaker, hopes to maintain its dominance in the compact SUV segment. To outperform its competitors in the class, the facelifted Creta has undergone significant modifications to its features, mechanical specifications, and styling. Notably, launched last year in July, the Kia Seltos SUV is one of the main competitors of the 2024 Creta. Given their nearly identical prices, the Seltos might pose a serious threat to the new Creta for the top spot in the market. Here's a detailed comparison between the Korean cousins to see how they fare against each other in terms of performance, features, dimensions, and other aspects.

There is a price difference of just Rs 10,000 between the Creta and the Seltos SUV. That being said, the Rs 11 lakh launch price for the Creta is introductory and could change shortly. The highest-spec models of both SUVs carry a price tag of Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) each. In addition, Kia sells a more expensive X-Line version of the Seltos in the domestic market. Hyundai is anticipated to release the N-Line version of the Creta in the coming months. It will go on to compete against the Seltos X-Line.

When it comes to the Creta's dimensions, it measures 1,635mm in height, 1,790mm in width, and 4,330mm in length. Its ground clearance is 190mm, and its wheelbase stands at 2,610mm. The Seltos, meanwhile, is 10mm wider, 10mm taller, and 35mm longer than the new Creta. The ground clearance and wheelbase of the Kia model are identical to those of the Creta. All things considered, the Seltos SUV is longer as well as wider than the facelifted Creta, although the difference is not much.

Mechanically, the Creta and Seltos are nearly identical. A 1.5-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol unit, a 1.5-litre diesel engine, and a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol mill are included with each of them. Speaking of transmission, the Seltos is available with an iMT gearbox in the turbo-petrol and diesel models and a CVT unit for the 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, while these engines in Creta are coupled to a 6-speed manual, iVT, and AT gearboxes in addition to the 7-speed DCT for turbo petrol. Between 113bhp and 158bhp, the two SUVs have comparable power outputs. Moreover, from 144Nm to 253Nm is the torque output range.

The models are comparable in terms of available fuel economy as well. The new Creta is just marginally better than the Seltos for some variants. For example, the recently added turbocharged petrol engine in the facelifted Creta delivers 18.4km/l, which is higher than the 17.9km/l on the Seltos. The diesel manual Creta variant has the best mileage of the two SUV models, at 21.8km/l. On the other hand, with its diesel version's iMT transmission, the Kia SUV claims 20.7km/l.

The new Creta and Seltos are both packed with features that, taken together, are absent from the majority of its competitors, including the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. Both the Creta facelift and the Seltos share similar features, such as a 10.25-inch fully digital display and touchscreen infotainment system that can be combined into a dual-screen configuration. The SUVs have a panoramic sunroof, motorised driver seat, ambient lighting, front seat ventilation, and a Bose premium sound system.

The head-up display that Kia offers on the Seltos X-Line model is the only feature that Creta is not offering at the moment. Sporting 18-inch alloys, this Seltos version also has larger wheels than the 17-inch ones that come with Creta. Besides, depending on the version, the Hyundai SUV does not have as many upholstery options as the Seltos.
