Available in both petrol and diesel versions, the new Hyundai Elantra goes on sale in India. Prices start at Rs 12.99 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 19.19 lakh.

Hyundai has launched the sixth-gen Elantra in the Indian market. Priced between Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 19.19 lakh (both ex-showroom, Delhi),  the new Elantra gets sharper design, new engine options, a thoroughly revamped cabin and it now comes with a slew of new features and equipment over the outgoing model.

For the new Elantra, Hyundai has adopted a new design language, called Fluidic Sculpture 2.0. What that means is that the curvy and svelte look of the previous-gen model has been replaced by an edgy and taut bodywork. The exterior design of the car is headlined by a signature hexagonal grille, new swept-back headlamp design, strong shoulder lines, new alloy wheels and LED taillights.

The cabin of the new Elantra marks significant improvement over the outgoing car.  The dashboard design has been completely revamped while the fit and finish of materials and build quality seems to be typically Hyundai. Other than that the new model gets a new 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an electric sunroof, cruise control, reverse parking camera, engine start/stop button, dual-zone air-conditioning, etc.

Powertrain options on the new Elantra include a diesel and a petrol engine. The former will be a 1.6-litre, turbo unit developing 126bhp of maximum power and 265Nm of peak torque. The petrol version will come powered by a 2.0-litre engine that produces 150bhp and 196Nm. Both the engines will be offered in a choice between a six-speed manual as well as a six-speed automatic transmission. The new Elantra also comes with selectable driving modes, namely - Eco and Sport.

The ARAI approved fuel efficiencies of the manual petrol and diesel versions are 14.59km/l and 22.54km/l, respectively. The petrol automatic returns 14.62km/l while the diesel automatic has a claimed fuel economy of 18.23km/l.

Safety net includes 6 airbags on the top end variant while ABS with EBD dual airbags (front) are standard across the range. ESC, VSM and hill assist are also available.

Hyundai will be offering 3 years unlimited kilometers warranty on the new Elantra while free roadside assistance and service packages will also be available.

Competition for the new Hyundai Elantra includes usual suspects like the Toyota Corolla Altis, Skoda Octavia, Chevrolet Cruze and the Volkswagen Jetta. Hyundai is offering the new Elantra in nine variants (5 petrol & 4 diesel) in five trim levels - S, SX, SX AT, SX(O), SX(O) AT. Prices (ex-showroom, Delhi) of all the variants are as follows,
