New Sony Honda Afeela SUV EV Prototype

Sony Honda Mobility took the wraps off the Afeela SUV prototype at CES 2026 in Las Vegas. This marks the company’s entry into the electric SUV space, with production confirmed to start in 2026. What’s interesting is that the SUV will launch before the Afeela sedan. That says a lot about where Sony Honda sees demand building first. Just like buyers often pick something practical and versatile over a pure road machine, the brand is clearly betting on utility-led EVs to make the first impact in its new lineup.

The SUV stands taller than the earlier Afeela sedan concepts, and that raised stance gives it a more purposeful look. Size-wise, it sits between a sedan and a large SUV, aiming to balance road presence with cabin space. The exterior sticks to the Afeela identity, using clean surfaces and neatly integrated lighting. Everything looks designed to flow smoothly, helping aerodynamics and making space for sensors without cluttering the body.

Lighting plays a big role in how the SUV looks. There are continuous light bars at both the front and rear, which give it a clear signature. The wheel arches are wider and filled with larger tyres to match the extra ride height. Under the body, shaped panels guide airflow towards cooling parts and diffusers, showing that efficiency has been considered from the ground up.

Inside, the cabin goes all-in on screens. A full-width digital display runs across the dashboard, handling driving data, vehicle controls and media. PlayStation 5 streaming is built into the infotainment system, with Bluetooth support for controllers. Gaming only works when the vehicle is parked or charging. Over-the-air updates will add new features later, keeping the system fresh over time.

The Afeela SUV uses dual electric motors with all-wheel drive. Sony Honda is targeting a range of more than 483km on the EPA cycle. DC fast charging can take the battery to 80 per cent in about 20 minutes. Deliveries will begin in North America in 2026, with other markets following as the company continues to build out its software-focused EV platform.
