Toyota has offered us a peek at a new Corolla concept ahead of its official debut at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show. The Corolla has been one of the Japanese marque’s most iconic and best-selling nameplates over the years. The new concept appears to take things further, making a striking shift in design and giving the familiar model a dynamic and fresh look. From the teaser images, we can see that the concept leans into a sleeker, low-slung, coupe-inspired sedan silhouette. While there’s no official confirmation yet, an electric powertrain is widely anticipated under the hood. Read on to know more about the design and other key details.

In terms of design, the new concept marks a significant evolution from the conventional looks of the current-gen Corolla. The front looks slim and dynamic, highlighted by a steeply raked windshield and deep bonnet creases that cut through the air. The bumper adopts a closed, anvil-like shape, typical of EVs, and is consistent with Toyota’s modern design language seen on other BEV concepts.

There’s a full-width light bar that bisects the upper boomerang-style DRLs and lower vertical headlights for a layered lighting setup. Along the flanks, wing mirrors are mounted directly on the doors, while the lower body features heavy sculpting and a well-defined rear haunch. A charging flap located behind the front wheel hints at an electric drivetrain. Meanwhile, the rear continues the theme with a horizontal LED light strip and a ducktail spoiler.
Toyota is currently tight-lipped about the powertrain details of the new Corolla concept, and more information is expected to surface at the Japan Mobility Show. However, we anticipate an electric drivetrain could be on the cards.
