Images of the near-production Volkswagen ID Polo and ID Polo GTI Electric have surfaced online ahead of their global debut, giving a clear idea of what to expect from Volkswagen’s upcoming electric hatchback. The leaked shots appear to be from a private preview and show multiple versions of the car, including the GTI. This new model will replace the petrol-powered Polo and move the nameplate into the electric era while keeping its familiar hatchback appeal.

The ID Polo is based on the ID 2all concept and carries a clean design. The standard version features a simple front with a full-width light bar, keeping things neat and modern. It does not try too hard, which actually works well for a hatch in this segment.

The GTI version brings more character to the design. It gets a black grille section with red accents, along with a revised bumper that includes honeycomb detailing. Larger alloy wheels further add to its stance, giving it a stronger road presence while still looking like a compact hatch.
Under the skin, the ID Polo sits on the MEB+ platform with a front-wheel-drive setup. It will be offered with two battery options: 38kWh and 56kWh. The claimed range goes up to 451km, and fast charging. The GTI version will produce 226bhp.

Volkswagen is expected to introduce the ID Polo EV in May 2026, followed by the GTI version later that year. Production will take place in Spain, and the starting price is expected to be around £21,000 (around Rs 26.49 lakh), positioning it as a more accessible electric hatchback.
