BMW never stops surprising its fans, and the Bavarian carmaker proved that once again at the Munich Motor Show today by teasing the camouflaged next-gen i3, alongside the official debut of the iX3 SUV, its first production model on the Neue Klasse platform. The upcoming i3 sedan will be built on BMW’s dedicated electric platform, the Neue Klasse, and manufactured at the Debrecen plant in Hungary. It will be the first fully electric variant of BMW's iconic 3 Series lineup, rather than a separate standalone EV. Here's a closer look at some key details about the upcoming i3.
Although the prototype was heavily camouflaged, several key design elements were still visible. The overall silhouette reflects classic 3 Series proportions, with a long hood, short overhangs, and rear-wheel-drive stance. However, the grille design appears new, featuring a pair of wide, horizontal kidney shape instead of the tall vertical one found on the iX3. This approach closely aligns with the aesthetic first previewed on the 2023 Vision Neue Klasse concept. The headlights look sharp and futuristic, retaining much of the concept’s high-tech lighting signature. The rear design, however, seems to have undergone some refinement.

While the concept featured unusually high-mounted taillights, the production version is likely to place them lower and give them a more conventional shape.
Codenamed NA0, the next-generation BMW i3 will build on the electric foundation laid by the recently debuted iX3. It is expected to deliver a range exceeding 800 kilometers, and both single- and dual-motor configurations. Thanks to its cutting-edge 800-volt architecture, the i3 is said to support ultra-fast charging at peak rates of up to 400 kW.

BMW plans to expand the i3 lineup beyond the sedan to include wagon and two-door coupe variants. The diversity in range will not only broaden customer options but also strengthen the brand's commitment to delivering a truly remarkable electric driving experience.
BMW has confirmed that its Neue Klasse platform-based BMW i3 will make it to the global shores next year. While an official announcement is pending, BMW's strategic focus on enhancing electric mobility and the growing interest in our premium EV segment suggest that the i3 could be a part of the brand's lineup here.
