The production-spec BMW i3 will remain faithful to the design seen on the Vision Neue Klasse concept, which made its debut in 2023. It will be the second Neue Klasse-based model, after the BMW iX3 SUV.

BMW has confirmed that the much-anticipated i3 will make its global debut on March 18, 2026. It will be the second model to spawn the brand’s Neue Klasse electric platform, after the iX3 SUV that debuted at the Munich Motor Show in September last year. Instead of being a standalone electric model, it will arrive as the first fully electric variant of BMW’s iconic 3 Series. As a little over a week has left before the wraps come off the second production-ready Neue Klasse model, here’s everything we can expect from it.

While the details remain scarce in the most recent teaser, the camouflaged test mule showcased during the iX3’s global debut suggested that the production-spec electric sedan will remain faithful to the design seen on the Vision Neue Klasse concept, which made its debut in 2023. It will likely have the familiar 3 Series silhouette, with a long hood, short overhangs, and rear-wheel-drive stance. However, the kidney grille will adopt a horizontally aligned layout, replacing the tall vertical setup seen on the BMW iX3.

Although the interior has yet to be revealed, the upcoming i3 sedan is expected to draw heavily from the cabin layout of its Neue Klasse sibling, the iX3. Key possible features include a floating dashboard, ambient-lit fabric surfaces, large glass panels, the optional panoramic roof, and a 17.9-inch infotainment display powered by BMW’s latest Operating System X.
While official figures are yet to be announced, the Neue Klasse i3 could adopt the 108.7kWh battery and dual-motor setup from the BMW iX3, which produces 463bhp and 645Nm, and offers up to 805 kilometres of WLTP range.
Given the rapid evolution of the luxury EV space and BMW’s commitment to electrification, the i3 could be a part of the brand's portfolio in our country. In India, the electrified BMW sedan will lock horns with the Tesla Model 3, and BYD Seal, among others.
