The Skoda Kylaq, priced at Rs 7.89 lakh, is a new addition to India's sub-4-metre compact SUV segment. The car directly competes with several models in the market, including the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, and Kia Sonet. We have already compared the new Skoda SUV to the Brezza. It's time to see how it compares with Tata's compact SUV, the Nexon, on a variety of parameters. So, without further ado, let the war begin.

Tata Nexon

Skoda Kylaq vs Tata Nexon: Design

The Kylaq retains the Czech carmaker’s classic design language, with the famous butterfly grille adorned in piano black. It has split LED headlights, ORVM-mounted turn indicators, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, and crystalline LED taillamps.

Skoda Kylaq vs Tata Nexon: Engine

The Czech automaker's recently launched compact SUV is powered by a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine with 114bhp, and 178 Nm. Power is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed torque converter gearbox. Notably, the Virtus, Taigun, Slavia, and Kushaq models also use the same engine.

On the other hand, the Tata SUV is available with both petrol and diesel engines. The 1.2-litre turbo-petrol unit produces 118bhp and 170Nm, while the 1.5-litre diesel mill generates 113bhp and 260Nm. The former comes with four distinct transmission options: a five-speed manual, a six-speed manual, a seven-speed DCT, and a six-speed AMT. On the other hand, the diesel engine can be paired with a six-speed manual or a six-speed AMT gearbox. The Nexon has an advantage over the Kylaq SUV due to the availability of more engine and gearbox options.
