Suzuki Jimny EV spotted testing reveals boxy design, closed grille and subtle EV styling while retaining its classic off-road look and proportions.

A heavily camouflaged test mule of the all-electric Suzuki Jimny EV has been spotted during cold-weather testing in snowy conditions. The sighting included two camouflaged prototypes, indicating that development is progressing at an advanced stage. Suzuki has not made any official announcement regarding an electric Jimny so far. However, winter testing in such low-grip conditions suggests that the project has moved beyond early evaluation stages and is now undergoing more detailed validation in demanding environments.

Suzuki has not shared any timeline, production plans or target markets for the Jimny EV. However, rigorous testing points to ongoing development progress for this upcoming electric SUV. The key consideration for the final product will be balancing electric vehicle requirements such as battery weight and driving range with the traditional off-road capability that defines the Jimny nameplate.
The prototype largely retains the familiar, rugged design of the current petrol Jimny. Its boxy shape, upright stance and short overhangs remain unchanged, which suggests Suzuki is not planning a major visual overhaul. These iconic elements continue to define the Jimny’s identity and play a major role in its off-road capability.

Some changes are visible at the front. The front grille appears mostly closed, which is typical for electric vehicles due to lower cooling requirements. The lighting elements look slimmer, and the lower bumper features openings that are likely designed to support cooling for the EV battery and related electrical components.
There are no interior spy shots of the cabin at this stage, but the overall layout is expected to remain similar to the current model. Suzuki is likely to retain the simple and functional design, while adding EV-specific elements to support the electric powertrain.
Updates may include a revised infotainment display, additional driving information related to battery usage, range estimation, and improved connectivity features. The electric setup is also expected to improve cabin refinement, especially in urban driving conditions where reduced noise and smoother operation can enhance overall comfort.
Suzuki has not disclosed any technical details about the electric powertrain yet. The current petrol version uses a 1.5-litre engine producing 102bhp and is paired with a four-wheel-drive (4WD) system designed for serious off-road use. If it enters production, the electric Jimny may adopt a dual-motor setup to maintain its signature off-road performance.
