The Altroz also sets the ball rolling for Tata's BS-VI product portfolio.

With the launch of the Altroz, Tata Motors has officially entered the premium hatchback space in the country. The Altroz has been launched in India at ₹5.29 lakh for the entry-level XE petrol variant and the price range goes up to ₹7.69 lakh for the top-spec XZ (O) version. Likewise, the diesel range of the Altroz starts from ₹6.99 lakh and goes up to ₹9.29 lakh for the top variant (All price figures are ex-showroom). As we informed our readers earlier, the Altroz is available in five trim levels – XE, XM, XT, XZ & XZ (O) – and all trim options are available with both petrol & diesel engine options. This gives the Altroz a total of 10 variants.

Speaking of the engine options, the Altroz gets a 1.2-litre three-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol motor (85bhp & 113Nm) and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged diesel (89bhp & 200Nm). Both engines are BS-VI compliant. For now, both engines only get a 5-speed manual gearbox. A dual-clutch automatic gearbox will be introduced at a later date. There may even be a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol motor that can join the current powertrain line-up of the Altroz. However, a confirmed launch date for both these add-ons is yet to be confirmed.

The Altroz will find itself in the ring with some worthy premium hatchback competitors like the Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz, Maruti Suzuki Baleno & the Toyota Glanza. Deliveries of the car are expected to start by the middle of next month.

We've already driven the Altroz and came back impressed with its driving dynamics, courtesy of the car's new ALFA (Agile, Light, Flexible and Advanced) architecture. You can read about our first drive experience of the Tata Altroz here. Moreover, Altroz's recent achievement on the safety front – a 5-star safety rating from the Global NCAP – adds another feather to its cap.
