Tata Tiago Surpasses 6 Lakh Unit Sales Milestone in India

The Tata Tiago has reached the impressive sales milestone of 6 lakh units in India, within just eight and a half years of its launch. According to SIAM wholesale figures, the hatchback sold 5.96 lakh units by the end of October 2024, only 3,339 units short of the milestone. With an average of 4,546 Tiagos sold per month between August and October 2024, it is estimated that the remaining units were likely delivered during the first three weeks of November.

For those unaware, the Tata Tiago has consistently been a strong performer in Tata Motors' passenger car range. In FY2019, the Tiago sold 92,369 units, accounting for 71% of Tata Motors' total passenger vehicle sales. However, the pandemic led to a notable decline in sales in the following years, with annual deliveries falling between 49,000 and 58,000 units. Despite this, the Tiago made a strong comeback in FY2023, with sales increasing by 33% to 77,399 units. This recovery was further solidified in FY2024, as Tiago sales continued to grow, rising by 10% to 85,478 units.

The Tiago has continuously maintained a significant portion of Tata Motors' passenger car sales, rising from 42% in FY2017 to 51% in FY2024. However, in the first seven months of FY2025, the sales of the car fell 33% year-on-year. This downturn slowed the hatchback's progress toward the 6-lakh sales milestone, despite its good performance in the last few years. For the uninitiated, Tata Tiago has crossed the significant 6 lakh sales milestone, following two strong sales phases of 1 lakh units each in just 15 and 16 months. The hatchback reached the 5-lakh sales mark in July of last year.

The Tata Tiago has a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 85bhp and 113Nm, and is mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT. The hatchback is also offered in CNG and electric versions.
