Just a few hours ago, Tesla launched the highly anticipated Model X – world’s first luxury electric SUV – in an event held at its factory in Fremont, California.

Once again, Tesla Motors has redefined a couple of words like performance, luxury, electric vehicle etc. A few hours ago, the most famous name in the world of electric cars, Tesla, launched world’s first luxury electric SUV – Model X. On the occasion, Tesla also handed first six customers the keys to their cars.

The production model of Model X will come with a price tag of $ 1,30,000 (Rs. 85.5 lakhs approx.), will go over 400 kms in a single charge, and can carry seven adults comfortably. The P90D version of the Model X, with the Ludicrous mode turned on, will hit the 60m/h mark from zero faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo. The P90D variant will cost you a little more at $ 1,42,000.

The huge windshield looks like blending flawlessly with the sunroof. According to Elon Musk, CEO, Tesla Motors, “It's the largest piece of glass in a car ever, I believe.” The ‘Falcon Wing Doors’ at the rear seat open upward and hinging in the middle, which makes it easy to operate them in a tight parking spot. The doors scan the area surrounding the car and open the doors accordingly. Despite being a family car Model X will take just 3.2 seconds to do 0-60m/h.

Another interesting fact is that the driver’s side door automatically closes once the driver puts his foot on the brake pedal. A 17-inch LCD instrument cluster in the centre console will take care of all of driver’s needs. The sound system of the Model X has been built in-house and boasts of 560 watts and 17 speakers. The system has been developed keeping the essentials in mind which is to deliver best sound with smallest power consumption.

Every model of Model X will be powered by a 90kWh battery and two motors at both the ends. The motor at the front delivers a whopping 259bhp and the one at rear delivers 503bhp (OUCH). The top speed of the Tesla Model X P90D has been limited at 155m/h (250km/h).
