The Tesla Model Y enters India to battle the BMW iX1 LWB, Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, and BYD Sealion 7 in the premium EV segment.

Tesla has launched the Model Y electric SUV in India, starting at Rs 59.89 lakh (ex-showroom). The American EV maker opened its first authorised Tesla showroom in Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai. Customers can choose between two variants—Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Long Range RWD. The standard Tesla Model Y offers a range of up to 500km (WLTP) and goes from 0 to 100km/h in 5.9 seconds. The Long Range version gives a 622km range and reaches 100km/h in 5.6 seconds. Both models have a top speed of 201km/h.
Inside, the Model Y gets a 15.3-inch touchscreen, heated and ventilated front seats, powered rear seats, and a 9-speaker sound system. There’s also an 8-inch rear screen, panoramic glass roof, and ambient lighting. Tesla's optional Autopilot feature costs Rs 6 lakh extra.

BYD has launched the Sealion 7 electric SUV in India with prices starting at Rs 48.90 lakh (ex-showroom). It features a coupe-like roofline and sharp LED lighting, including signature double-U headlamps. The design follows BYD’s Ocean series styling and gives the SUV a modern, clean look.

The Sealion 7 is available in RWD and AWD versions, both powered by an 82.6kWh battery. The RWD delivers 308bhp, 380Nm of torque, and a range of 560km. The AWD offers 523bhp, 690Nm, and a 530km range.
With 218bhp and 350Nm of torque, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 delivers a smooth and responsive drive. The spacious interior, fast charging, and clean design have made it popular among EV buyers.

The current version is priced at Rs 46.05 lakh (ex-showroom), with the new facelift expected to arrive in the Indian market soon.
The Kia EV6, priced at Rs 65.90 lakh (ex-showroom), runs on an 84kWh battery with a dual-motor AWD setup that puts out 321bhp and 605Nm. Built on the E-GMP platform, it offers strong performance and smooth control.

It claims a range of up to 650km on a full charge. With a sharp design and tech-packed cabin, the EV6 stands out as a solid premium EV option in India.

BMW iX1 LWB is priced at Rs 49 lakh (ex-showroom), offering a single eDrive20L M Sport variant. It runs on a 66.4kWh battery and delivers 201bhp and 250Nm, blending electric efficiency with BMW’s familiar driving feel.

With a claimed 531km range, it suits both city runs and longer trips. The stretched wheelbase adds cabin space, while the M Sport trim gives it a sporty edge.
