Top 5 ADAS Cars Under Rs 20 Lakh in India: MG Astor, Mahindra XUV700 and More

While driver's safety and traffic efficiency have been the major challenges for quite some time, cars with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) features have recently gained growing popularity. Nowadays, large automakers exhaust the great majority of their resources to design and develop ADAS-equipped cars that help to prevent imminent dangerous situations and improve driver's safety and comfort. Automatic lane keeping, lane departure warning, park assistance, distance to collision indicator, and smart cruise control are some of the features that the ADAS technology incorporates. Usually, the ADAS is limited to luxury vehicles, however the technology has evolved to the point that ADAS is available in affordable cars that start with as low as Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom). Here's a look at some of them:

MG Astor: ADAS Features, Engine, Price

MG ASTOR

MG Motor's mid-size Astor is one of the most affordable cars to come with ADAS. The tech-laden SUV offers level 2 autonomous driving tech and features artificial intelligence. A suite of ADAS features include lane keep assist, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, autonomous emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Other additional features include blind spot detection, speed assist system, and headlamp control. However, these features are not standard; they vary depending on the variant. 

The compact SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 110bhp and 144Nm. The engine can be had with a 6-speed manual and an 8-step shift lock CVT transmissions. Another option on offer is a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine, which is mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic. The power output stands at 140bhp and 220Nm.

As for its pricing, the Astor retails between Rs 10.52 lakh and ₹18.43 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom.

Honda City eHEV: ADAS Features, Engine, Price

The Honda City eHEV comes with Honda Sensing Suite that features safety technology like road departure mitigation, lane keep assist system, lead car departure notification, adaptive cruise control, and autonomous emergency braking. The company offers these safety features across all variants, with the exception of the standard variant. 

Launched in a single, top-spec ZX trim in May last year, the eHEV uses a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder engine that delivers an output of 124bhp and a peak torque of 253Nm. The affordable sedan is paired with two electric motors. The Honda City eHEV is priced at Rs 19.89 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Mahindra XUV700: ADAS Features, Engine, Price

The Mahindra XUV700 SUV comes equipped with Level 2 ADAS. The ADAS features include automatic emergency braking, front collision warning, lane keep assist, smart pilot assist, high beam assist, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition, and adaptive cruise control. The features vary depending on the variant. Notably, most ADAS features are available from the AX7 variant onwards. 

In terms of the powertrain, the XUV700 draws power from a 2.0-litre petrol engine and a 2.2-litre diesel engine. When running on petrol, the SUV churns out 197bhp of maximum power and 380Nm of peak torque. While the diesel engine puts out 155bhp of maximum power and 360Nm of torque for base variants and 185bhp for higher variants. For transmission duties, both engines are paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or an optional 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Coming to its pricing, the Mahindra XUV700 starts at Rs 13.45 lakh and goes up to Rs 25.48 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom. 

Tata Safari: ADAS Features, Engine, Price

Tata has updated the Safari for the model year 2023 with ADAS technology and advanced features. The Safari's ADAS offerings include forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot detection, high beam assist, door open alert, traffic sign recognition, rear cross-traffic alert, and rear collision warning. In addition, the new Safari also gets an electronic parking brake with auto hold, six airbags, 360-degree reverse parking cameras, and sensors. 

The 2023 car gets a 2.0-litre Kryotec turbocharged diesel engine (BS6 2.0-compliant) that is compatible with a six-speed automatic transmission and a six-speed manual transmission. It generates 168bhp of power at 3,750rpm and 350Nm of torque between 1,750 and 2,500rpm. 

Speaking of its price, the latest Safari ranges from Rs 15.65 lakh to Rs 25.01 lakh (ex-showroom). 

Toyota Innova Hycross: Features, Specs, Price

Apart from ADAS functionalities, the Toyota Innova Hycross also comes with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 package that provides enhanced safety for both driver and passengers. The ADAS technology encompasses adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and high beam assist. Among other features, the MPV gets 6 SRS air bags, an automatic parking brake, disc brakes, and inside rear-view mirror. 

The Innova Hycross sits above the Innova Crysta and is the first Toyota model to use a strong hybrid powertrain. The MPV has a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder TNGA petrol engine, which produces 172bhp of power and 187Nm of peak torque. It comes paired with a CVT transmission. The same petrol engine is also available with a hybrid motor, delivering 111bhp of maximum power and 206Nm of peak torque. This setup is mated to an e-CVT device.

As of now, the Innova Hycross is on sale at a starting price of Rs 18.55 lakh. While its top-spec trim is priced at Rs 29.72 lakh. All prices are ex-showroom. In the country, it rivals the likes of the Innova Crysta, the MG Hector Plus, the Hyundai Alcazar, and the Mahindra XUV700.
