Maruti Suzuki, as expected, remained the best-selling car brand in August 2025, with 1.31 lakh units sold. The battle for the second spot was intense, as both Hyundai and Tata Motors crossed the 40,000-unit mark and finished with a narrow gap between them. However, the Creta manufacturer edged ahead to claim the title, selling 44,001 units. Meanwhile, Tata Motors followed closely in third place, with 41,001 units sold. Here’s a detailed look at how each carmaker performed in the top 5 rankings.
Units sold: 1.31 lakh
Maruti Suzuki retained its position as the top-selling carmaker in August, despite witnessing a dip in sales both year-on-year (8.2%) and month-on-month (4.7%). Compared to this year's August, 1.43 lakh units were sold in the same month in 2024. However, 1.38 lakh units were sold in July 2025.

Notably, the Maruti Ertiga emerged as the best-selling model in August 2025. It was closely trailed by the Dzire. Other strong performers in the lineup included the Wagon R, Brezza, Baleno, and Fronx.

Units sold: 44,001
Hyundai Motor India reported a marginal increase of 0.1% over July’s figure of 43,973 units. However, on a year-on-year basis, the carmaker saw a notable decline of 11.2%. For reference, Hyundai sold 49,525 units in August 2024.

Units sold: 41,001
With units 39,521 sold in July this year, Tata Motors registered a month-on-month growth of 3.7%. However, compared to August 2024, when 44,142 were sold, the company recorded a year-on-year decline of 7.1%.

Units sold: 39,399
Mahindra experienced a significant month-on-month decline of 21%, with 39,399 units sold in August 2025, compared to 49,871 units in July.
On a year-on-year basis, the carmaker also saw a drop of 9%. For comparison, Mahindra sold 43,277 units in August 2024.

Units sold: 29,302
Toyota sold 29,302 units last month, registering a slight 0.5% increase over July's figure of 29,159 units.

On a year-on-year basis, the company posted a 2.5% growth compared to 28,589 units sold in August 2024.
