It was accompanied by Tata Motors in the second place, with Mahindra and Hyundai, securing the third and fourth spots. Maruti Suzuki remained the No.1 carmaker in March 2026, with sales of 1.66 lakh units. Compared to 1.51 lakh units sold in March of last year, this was a healthy growth of 10% YoY. The brand also maintained a market share of over 37%. Maruti Suzuki’s continued dominance in India is a result of a wide portfolio spanning hatchbacks, sedans, and SUVs. Popular models like Dzire, WagonR, Brezza, and Ertiga consistently feature among top sellers, showing their unmatched reach and appeal among Indian buyers.

Tata Motors emerged as the second top-selling car brand last month, with 66,192 units sold. This translated to a rise of 28% from 51,616 units sold in March 2025. Tata’s consistent growth in the market is backed by its SUV-heavy lineup and growing presence in the EV segment. Some of its notable offerings include the highly popular Tata Nexon, Punch, and Tiago.

Mahindra ranked third on the sales chart in the previous month. It reported selling 60,272 units, compared to 48,048 units in March 2025, marking a growth of 25%. The brand has benefited from strong demand for rugged SUVs and lifestyle vehicles such as the Thar, Scorpio-N, and the new XUV7XO, helping it surpass competitors in recent months.

Mahindra’s consistent focus on performance-oriented SUVs and expanding EV plans continues to strengthen its market position.

Hyundai Motor India was the fourth best-seller in India in March. It sold 55,064 units, posting a modest 6% YoY growth over 51,820 units in March 2025. Despite feature-rich offerings. Key best-selling models of Hyundai include the Creta, Venue, and i20.

Toyota sold 35,168 units in March and secured its position as the fifth best-selling carmaker on the list. It experienced a growth of 24% from 28,373 units sold in March 2025. The brand’s performance is driven by its reputation for reliability and growing hybrid portfolio. Toyota’s key models include Innova HyCross, Fortuner, and Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Toyota’s increasing focus on fuel-efficient hybrid technology is helping it to strengthen its footprint in the premium car segment in India.
