Toyota is advancing its efforts in alternative powertrains to drive the future of mobility. A few years ago, the carmaker showcased an all-electric version of the Innova Crysta at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). Now, the brand has introduced another battery-powered iteration of the Innova Crysta, which appears closer to production. Dubbed the Kijang Innova BEV Concept, this fully electric MPV recently premiered at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2025, highlighting Toyota’s increasing emphasis on electrification in one of its key global markets. Toyota has not officially announced plans for mass-producing the electric Innova, but this concept hints at the company’s evolving electric vehicle strategy for developing markets.

While the BEV Concept retains the Innova’s familiar outline, it incorporates distinct styling upgrades, including unique body graphics, 16-inch alloy wheels, Toyota’s new BEV insignia, and reworked rear and side illumination. The front fascia features a predominantly sealed grille, flanked by sharp, angular headlights, now linked by a light strip that integrates a redesigned LED signature.

The bumper houses slimmer fog lamps, while the Toyota emblem is accented in blue, highlighting its electric nature. Moreover, a translucent panel incorporates connected LED taillights with a revamped lighting pattern and blue accents. Along the sides, blue and grey graphics extend across the body, complemented by a blacked-out roof and pillars for a sportier look.
Built on a monocoque chassis, the Innova EV Concept is equipped with an efficient battery system as well as a high-torque electric motor. Power comes from a 59.3kWh lithium-ion battery pack, producing 179bhp and 700Nm of torque. Supporting both AC and DC fast charging, its official range remains undisclosed. Beyond its mechanical setup, the latest iteration brings refreshed exterior and interior upgrades, reinforcing its role as a fully electric alternative to the traditional Innova lineup.
Inside, the cabin design remains largely unchanged, featuring a layered dashboard, a semi-digital instrument panel, and a prominent touchscreen infotainment panel. However, the electrified Crysta introduces a redesigned centre console, eliminating the conventional gear lever and rotary controls in favour of modern switch-based controls. Additionally, the brand has equipped the BEV with a powered tailgate, further boosting its practicality.

The second row in the concept version includes captain seats, accompanied by a sizable console that integrates a wireless charging pad and various storage compartments. The standout feature is the dual-screen rear-seat entertainment system, offering enhanced passenger convenience.

Whether this model will reach full-scale production remains uncertain, but if it does, there is a possibility of an India launch – though it seems unlikely at the moment.
