The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ has been spotted testing on public roads for the first time, giving us a clear look at the upcoming SUV before its global debut. Fresh spy shots show a camouflaged prototype running in Bangkok, which hints that Toyota is preparing the new model for multiple markets from day one. This will be the smallest Land Cruiser in the line-up and it is expected to sit below the larger SUVs while sticking to a body-on-frame setup. The test mule carries the boxy stance and upright shape that link it to the Land Cruiser badge. With real-world testing now underway, the Land Cruiser FJ has moved past the preview stage and into the final phase before Toyota pulls the covers off the production version.

The overall shape sticks to what you expect from a Land Cruiser. The prototype shows a boxy layout, upright glass area and short overhangs. Reports suggest the SUV will use a ladder-frame chassis linked to Toyota’s IMV platform, which already supports several of the brand’s global utility vehicles. That setup should help it retain proper four-wheel-drive hardware rather than shifting to a monocoque structure.

Under the bonnet, early information points to a 2.7-litre petrol engine paired with an automatic gearbox and a four-wheel-drive system. This combination has been linked to current test vehicles, though Toyota may add more engine options depending on market needs. Final specs will only be confirmed closer to the reveal.
In terms of size, the Land Cruiser FJ is expected to be smaller than the larger Land Cruiser SUVs sold globally. The footprint should make it easier to use in urban settings while keeping the body-on-frame base. A two-row cabin and five-seat layout are expected, based on early reports around the development car.
Toyota previewed the model earlier as part of its future SUV plan, and these first road tests show that work is progressing toward a global launch. A debut date has not been locked in yet, but more sightings are likely as testing continues across regions. Once it arrives, the Land Cruiser FJ will add a new option to the Land Cruiser range and bring the badge into a smaller segment.
