Fleet Of Strong Hybrid TOYOTA CAMRY Models Ready To Be Delivered For Forthcoming India Africa Forum Summit

Toyota India has supplied 55 Camry Hybrid cars for the on-going India-Africa Summit in New Delhi. This fleet will be used for transportation of leaders and diplomats of the participating nations.

Now in its third year, the India-Africa Summit is aimed at intensifying India’s engagement with the African continent and facilitating trade ties in areas of energy, healthcare, technology and infrastructure.

The vehicle of choice for transporting delegates is the new Camry Hybrid, which combines a 2.5-litre, 159 bhp petrol engine with a 141 bhp electric motor. The total output stands at 202 bhp because the motor and the engine never reach full output at the same time.

Speaking of functionality of the hybrid, the electric motor saves the energy lost otherwise during braking. This energy is stored in a battery and can be later used by the driver to power the vehicle.

Regenerative braking, as explained above, results in a major bump in fuel efficiency. While the standard Camry offers ARAI claimed mileage of 12.98km/l, the Hybrid version manages 19.16kms with 1 litre of petrol.

The Camry Hybrid functions in two modes - Eco and EV. When on Eco mode, both the electrical and motor power are used together, with the degree of utilisation of the former depending upon the condition. There’s also an EV mode, best suited for slow-moving traffic, where the car runs solely on electrical power.

Being a hybrid, the Camry takes advantage of Indian Government’s recently launched FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric cars) scheme, which helps in shedding the price of the cars by a small extent.
