Toyota has teased the Urban Cruiser EV, ahead of its reported India launch on January 19, 2026. The EV is essentially a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, prices of which are set to be announced soon. From the teasers, the Urban Cruiser EV appears to borrow styling cues from the Urban Cruiser BEV concept showcased at last year’s Auto Expo, including a robust bumper, sleek headlights, a charging port positioned above the front fender, and a BEV emblem.
The Urban Cruiser EV marks Toyota’s first shared electric vehicle project with Maruti Suzuki. Toyota already sells rebadged versions of popular Maruti cars in India, including the Urban Cruiser Hyryder (Grand Vitara), Glanza (Baleno), Urban Cruiser Taisor (Fronx), and Rumion (Ertiga). Beyond looks, the EV is expected to come loaded with modern features. Here’s what we know so far about them.

The Urban Cruiser EV first made its appearance as a concept in Brussels in 2023 before its production-ready version showed up in December 2024. Up front, the EV features sleek LED headlights with integrated DRLs, connected by a contrasting black trim, while the bumper incorporates aerodynamic air ducts. The charging port is positioned on the front left quarter panel. Along the sides, the Toyota model sports rear door handles mounted on the C-pillar, squared-off wheel arches, protective door cladding, and alloy wheels.

The rear end boasts a substantial bumper, an integrated roof spoiler, and a full-width taillight strip highlighted by a central reflective element. Circular accents in the taillights mirror the front DRL pattern.

Inside, the Urban Cruiser EV is likely to build on the design language of the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara while introducing a sophisticated black-and-grey colour scheme. It is also expected to come with 12-colour ambient lighting, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, and a high-quality JBL sound system
Other possible highlights include wireless smartphone charging, a fixed glass roof, and safety aids such as tyre pressure monitoring, electronic stability control (ESC), a 360-degree camera, and ADAS.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV is said to adopt the same powertrain options as the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. The e-Vitara offers two battery sizes (a 49kWh unit and a 61kWh pack), spread across three trims: Delta, Zeta, and Alpha. Both battery options are paired with a single front-mounted electric motor, producing 142bhp with the smaller pack and 172bhp with the larger one, while torque remains constant at 192.5Nm. The Delta trim is expected to come exclusively with the 49kWh battery, whereas the Zeta and Alpha trims will feature the 61kWh unit.
The 49kWh version delivers an estimated 344 kilometres of range (WLTP), while the 61kWh pack can cover up to 543 kilometres (ARAI) on a single charge. Both versions come with a front-wheel-drive (FWD) configuration, though the international-spec e Vitara also offers an all-wheel-drive (AWD) dual-motor setup.
