Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor Name Trademarked in India; To Be Based on Maruti Suzuki Fronx?

Toyota has recently registered the name Urban Cruiser Taisor in India. Even though there has been no official announcement from the Japanese carmaker, rumours in the industry suggest that the upcoming Taisor model might be a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx. If the reports are accurate, both models are likely to have some similarities and differences, just like the previous cars made under the collaboration of these two corporations. Minor changes on the exterior could include, distinct wheels, updated grille, revised bumpers, and modified lighting components. On the other hand, there might be some thematic improvements inside. There is no specific information from the brand regarding the market introduction. However, based on industry speculations, the rebranded vehicle could launch in India during the holiday season.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor: Powertrain

The Urban Cruiser Taisor is expected to offer the same options as its Japanese sibling for the motor. A 1.2-litre Dual-Jet Dual-VVT petrol engine on the Fronx delivers 89bhp and 113Nm, while the 1.0-litre Turbo Boosterjet petrol motor puts out 99bhp and 147.6Nm. The former has a 5-speed MT and a 5-speed AMT as options. The latter, meanwhile, comes with a 5-speed MT or 6-speed AT. In India, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx is also on sale with a CNG powerplant, and the upcoming Toyota model is likely to be offered with the same as well.

The new Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor is expected to imitate the feature list available with the Fronx that includes a 9.0-inch HD Smart Play Pro+ infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, a wireless charger, a multi-functional steering wheel, cruise control, automatic climate control, and more. In addition to this, it could offer the same safety equipment like the parking sensors, ISOFIX child seat anchors, ESP with Hill Hold Assist & Rollover Mitigation, ABS with EBD, etc.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor: Expected Price & Launch

As mentioned, the new Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor may offer exterior and interior upgrades over the Fronx, which could result in a modest price premium over the Japanese sibling. It is expected to go on sale in the nation around the holiday season. Upon launch, it will face fierce competition from SUVs under four metres in length such as the Tata Nexon, the Hyundai Venue, and more.
