Upcoming Car launches: January 2023

Here is a list of the most anticipated car debuts at the 2023 Auto Expo to be held in January 2023, where a variety of products will shed their covers, either in their new-gen forms or facelifted versions.

Several new SUVs, EVs, and sedans will make their debut at the 2023 Auto Expo.

A substantial number of new car models are being introduced in our market as a result of the Indian auto industry's rapid growth. There is always a great deal of interest in upcoming vehicles in India, especially when you are planning to purchase your next car. So, let's take a look at the most anticipated car launches scheduled for January 2023.

1. Maruti Baleno Cross

A new Coupe SUV, which is currently being tested by Maruti Suzuki with the codename YTB, will make its debut at the 2023 Auto Expo. At the biennial event, Maruti Suzuki may also announce the cost of the new Baleno Cross. Suzuki's compact HEARTECT platform, which also underpins the Baleno, has been used as the foundation for the design and development of the new vehicle. To increase safety, Suzuki engineers plan to modify the platform with high-strength steel.

The 1.0-litre 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that powers the brand-new Maruti Baleno Cross is BS6 compliant and generates 102bhp and 150Nm of peak torque. To increase fuel efficiency, the engine is anticipated to receive mild hybrid technology. A 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox and a 5-speed manual transmission are likely to be available. Additionally, a 1.2-litre dual-jet petrol engine, with 89bhp and 113Nm of maximum torque, is also anticipated for the crossover.

2. Toyota Innova Hycross

The next-generation Innova Hycross has been officially unveiled by Toyota in India. In our market, the new Toyota Innova Hycross is expected to make its debut in January 2023. The car has a front-wheel-drive configuration and is built on the new TNGA-C platform. It will be available with two engine options – a 2.0-litre NA petrol and a 2.0-litre petrol-hybrid with Toyota's fifth-generation strong hybrid tech. The hybrid version produces a combined power of 183bhp, compared to the former's 172bhp and 197Nm. A CVT automatic transmission sends power to the front wheels. According to ARAI certification, the hybrid MPV has a fuel efficiency of 21.1km/l.

For a token amount of ₹50,000, prospective buyers can book the new model online or at an authorised dealership.  It will be available in five versions – G, GX, VX, ZX, and ZX (O). The G and GX variants will only be available with a petrol engine, while the other variants will have a strong-hybrid powertrain as an option. The new model will be equipped with features like wireless charging, a 9-speaker JBL audio system, a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera, heated front seats, and motorised second-row seats with the ottoman function.

3. Citroen C3 EV

With the introduction of the new C3-based EV, Citroen has formally revealed its intention to enter the electric vehicle market. The new EV is likely to make its debut in January 2023. The e-CMP modular platform will serve as the foundation for the new model. The new EV is expected to have a 50kWh battery pack to power an electric motor, positioned on the front axle. The electric drivetrain produces 134bhp of maximum power and 260Nm of torque and offers a range of more than 350 kilometres. Citroen may provide a less powerful battery pack option with 300 kilometres of range.

4. Mahindra XUV400

In September 2022, Mahindra introduced the brand-new XUV400 electric SUV. The Mahindra XUV400 subcompact SUV, which is based on the XUV300, sports a new design, industry-leading features, and an electric drivetrain. A 39.4kWh battery pack powers the electric motor installed on the front axle. The motor produces a maximum torque of 310Nm and 150bhp of power.

The EV has a claimed top speed of 150km/h and can do the 0 to 100km/h sprint in just 8.3 seconds. On a single charge, it is said to have a certified range of 456 kilometres. The battery can be charged from 0 to 80% using a 50kW fast charger in 50 minutes. The Ev will have three driving modes –Fun, Fast, and Fearless. Additionally, there will also be Lively mode, a single-pedal drive option. Reservations for the new model will open in the first half of January 2023, while test drives will commence this month. The electric SUV will be available in three variants – Base, EP, and EL.

5. MG Hector Facelift

On January 5, 2023, MG Motor India will introduce the new Hector SUV in our market. According to official teaser images, it will have a completely new interior and substantial design alterations. With Next-Gen i-SMART technology compatibility, the new MG Hector will have the largest 14-inch HD portrait touchscreen infotainment system in its class. It will also have wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Moreover, a fully computerised, seven-inch configurable instrument console will also be available.

Two powertrain choices for the new MG Hector are expected – a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine and a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine, which will produce 168bhp and 350 Nm of torque, instead of the previous version's 141bhp and 250Nm. The firm might possibly launch a petrol model equipped with moderate hybrid technology. Transmission options will include a CVT automatic and a 6-speed manual transmission.
