Volkswagen have revealed an all new three row, seven seater SUV called the Volkswagen Atlas, targeting the American market.

After making a settlement of $14.7 billion US dollars and buying back over 457,000 vehicles, Volkswagen announced an all new SUV that has been developed with the US market in mind. The Volkswagen Atlas is a three row SUV that can seat a total of 7 passengers which gets a VR6 engine and all-wheel-drive.

The Atlas is the most American vehicle Volkswagen has ever made. With its boxy styling, and flared wheel arches and large head lamps and tail lamps, the Atlas look exactly what the American buy always wanted, something extremely big and a bit unnecessary.

Based on the MQB architecture, the Atlas measures in 5,036mm in length, 1,955mm wide and 1,767mm tall. And all of that is propelled by a 3.6-litre VR6-cylinder engine that cranks out 280bhp, or 238bhp 2.0-litre turbo charged four cylinder engine and comes mated to an 8-speed automatic DSG gearbox. The more power 3.6-litre version also gets the option of a 4Motion all-wheel-drive as well. However, Volkswagen have not yet revealed the fuel economy figures of the vehicle.

The third row seating is the party piece of Atlas which Volkswagen has advertised extremely spacious and can seat two adults comfortably, and once folded down, the space provides ample storage capacity as well. An optional digital cockpit (like you get in the modern Audi’s is also offered at the front, in addition to VW’s car-Net suite with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink with a highly sophisticated audio system from Fender.

The Atlas comes as standard with LED headlamps and Daytime Runnig Lights with an optional LED tail lamps. While being the most boldly and muscular designed car that has come from VW’s design team, the Atlas is still able to stay true to the basic styling you get on the other SUV from Volkswagen like the Tuareg and Tiguan.

The Atlas is currently only focused for the American market, whether Volkswagen sees a market for such a vehicle else where, remains to been seen.
