Volkswagen has given us a first look at the ID Cross electric SUV before its global debut. The car was spotted testing on the streets of Amsterdam in camouflage, but you can already tell what it’s about. It’s a compact electric SUV that will sit at the entry point of Volkswagen’s EV range, and the design sticks to clean lines and a simple overall shape. The ID Cross is based on the MEB+ platform and uses a front-wheel-drive setup.

Volkswagen will offer it with three power outputs – 114bhp, 133bhp, and 209bhp. There will also be two battery options: 37kWh and 52kWh.
The Volkswagen ID Cross follows the brand’s Pure Positive design language, with clean lines and balanced proportions. It keeps a simple but strong look, with a closed front grille that highlights its electric nature. The SUV measures around 4.16 metres in length and features slim Matrix LED headlights that give it a sharp front profile.

The side profile stands out with a sloping roofline, giving it a sportier look compared to typical compact SUVs. Wheel sizes will range from 17 to 20 inches, depending on the variant. Overall, the ID Cross keeps the design clean while adding a slightly dynamic touch to its compact SUV form.
Inside, it gets a digital instrument cluster and a big infotainment screen. Volkswagen has kept physical buttons for key functions, which makes things easier when you are driving. The materials inside are aimed to match what you see in more expensive cars.

In terms of practicality, it looks sorted. The boot offers 450 litres of space, and there’s an extra 25-litre storage area under the bonnet for charging cables. With the bigger battery, the SUV can tow up to 1,200 kg. It also gets vehicle-to-load support, so you can power external devices straight from the car.
Charging speeds depend on the battery you pick. The smaller pack supports up to 90 kW DC fast charging, while the larger one goes up to 105 kW. In both cases, charging from 10 to 80 per cent takes around 24 to 27 minutes. The ID Cross will also get features like travel assist and park assist plus.

Volkswagen plans to reveal it globally in summer 2026, with a European launch later in autumn, and prices expected to start at around €28,000 (approx. Rs 29.74 lakh).
