Volkswagen India has started production of the updated Volkswagen Taigun at its Chakan plant in Pune. The price announcement is set for April 9, and this is the first major update since the SUV launched in 2021. The Taigun continues to be an important model under Volkswagen’s India 2.0 plan. The Pune facility also handles exports, so this SUV is not just for India but for global markets as well.
Piyush Arora, Managing Director & CEO, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Private Limited, said: "The start of production of the new Volkswagen Taigun underscores the maturity of our world-class manufacturing ecosystem in India. Our Indian manufacturing facilities are geared to deliver global-quality vehicles with high levels of localisation, enabling us to respond quickly to what customers demand in India and in export markets.

"The Taigun stands as a perfect example of this approach, engineered in line with Volkswagen’s global benchmarks and produced in India with a sharp focus on efficiency, quality, and safety. As we roll out the new Taigun, we are further solidifying India’s position as a strategic production and export base for the Group."
The facelift keeps things familiar but adds a sharper look. Up front, you get slimmer LED headlamps and a revised grille. There is also a connected light bar and an illuminated VW logo, which looks neat without trying too hard.

The bumpers are updated with new air intakes and skid plates. At the rear, the connected LED tail-lamps stay, but the lighting pattern is new. It is not a full makeover, but enough to make you look twice.
Volkswagen is expected to add more tech and comfort. The dashboard could feature a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen. The system may include Google AI and navigation. Features like ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof, and a rear-seat massage function on higher variants are also likely.
The engines are expected to remain unchanged. The 1.5-litre TSI could continue to produce 148bhp and 250Nm, paired with a seven-speed DSG. The 1.0-litre TSI is likely to deliver 113bhp and 178Nm. A key update could be the move to an eight-speed torque converter automatic, replacing the older six-speed unit, which may improve everyday drivability.

Volkswagen is also expected to continue without Level 2 ADAS, while offering six airbags as standard. The Taigun has already crossed 1.43 lakh units in production, with around 30 per cent exported to over 40 countries. This update does not try to reinvent the SUV. It simply adds what was missing and keeps the rest intact.
