Volkswagen Taigun is finally getting an update, and the brand has dropped the first teaser ahead of its 9 April debut. This is the first proper refresh for the SUV since it came out four years ago. From the teaser, it is clear that the focus is on design changes and feature updates. The Taigun has held its ground in the segment, but with newer rivals stepping up, this facelift looks like a necessary move to keep things fresh and competitive.
The front end is expected to see the biggest changes. It could get new LED headlamps with a curved design, along with a revised grille. A full-width LED light bar may also be added, and the logo could feature illumination. The bumpers are likely to be updated with black inserts for a cleaner look. The rear may continue with connected LED tail-lamps with updated internal detailing.
Inside the cabin, more features are expected this time. A panoramic sunroof and seat massaging function are likely to be included. The SUV may also get a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with AI features. Along with this, existing features like ventilated front seats, wireless charging, and automatic climate control are expected to continue.
The facelift is expected to offer six airbags as standard across all variants. Other features will likely include electronic stability control, hill hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, and ISOFIX mounts. Although there is still no clarity on whether ADAS will be offered.
Mechanically, things stay the same. The 1.0-litre TSI engine will continue with 113bhp and 178Nm, while the 1.5-litre TSI will produce 148bhp and 250Nm. The main change could be the 1.0-litre version getting a new eight-speed torque converter automatic instead of the current six-speed unit. The 1.5-litre engine will continue with the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

After it is revealed on 9 April, the facelift should go on sale in the next few months. It will go up against the Skoda Kushaq, Hyundai Creta, and Kia Seltos. Prices are expected to start from around Rs 11.5 lakh (ex-showroom), with a small increase over the current model.
