Volkswagen has launched its flagship seven-seater SUV, the Tayron R-Line, in India at an introductory ex-showroom price of Rs 46.99 lakh. Bookings are now open for a token amount of Rs 51,000 at authorised dealerships as well as on the company’s official website. The newly launched SUV is essentially a stretched version of the five-seater Tiguan R-Line (priced at Rs 45.73 lakh), which made it to India last year in April. Compared to its sibling, the Tayron R-Line offers up to 198 litres more luggage capacity. With all seats in place, it provides 345 litres of boot space, expanding to 850 litres when the third row is folded, while the Tiguan R-Line has a 652-litre boot. The extended version inherits the sporty front design of its sibling, the Tiguan R-Line, albeit with a few changes, including a redesigned grille. It features LED headlamps with DRLs, 19-inch dual-tone alloys, and pixel-style connected LED taillamps and illuminated badges at the front and rear.

As for colours, buyers can also choose from seven options, including Ultraviolet Metallic, Cipressino Green Metallic, Dolphin Grey Metallic, Oyster Silver Metallic, Nightshade Blue Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic, and Oryx White with a Mother-of-Pearl effect.
The Tayron R-Line measures 4,792mm in length, 1,866mm in width, and 1,665mm in height, which makes it 253mm longer, 7mm wider, and 9mm taller than the Tiguan R-Line, which measures 4,539mm long, 1,859mm wide, and 1,656mm tall. The stretched Tayron's wheelbase is 2,789mm – 109mm longer than the Tiguan R-Line’s 2,680mm.

From the inside, the Tayron R-Line is largely the same as the Tiguan R-Line, apart from a few minor changes. Key features include 12-way powered front seats with memory, massage and ventilation functions, a 3-zone climate control, an 11-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a panoramic sunroof, a 30-colour ambient lighting, a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display. For safety, the SUV comes equipped with 9 airbags, level 2 ADAS, and a 360-degree camera with a blind spot monitor.
The car is underpinned by an MQB EVO platform (also found in the R-Line version of the Tiguan), and has the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 201bhp and 320Nm. This unit comes mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT), and power is sent to all four wheels.
