Volkswagen India has taken the next step towards its upcoming SUV launch by starting local assembly of the Tayron R-Line at its Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar plant. The three-row SUV is being assembled through the completely knocked down route ahead of its expected India debut in early 2026. With the demand for premium SUVs rising steadily, this move puts Volkswagen in a strong position going forward. The Tayron R-Line will sit above the Tiguan R-Line and is set to become the brand’s largest and most premium SUV for the Indian market. Local assembly should also help keep pricing in check, something buyers closely watch in this segment.

Built on the MQB Evo platform, the Tayron made its global debut in 2024. The platform is already familiar across several Volkswagen Group models worldwide, known for balancing performance, comfort, and safety. The fact that the local assembly has started within a year of its global reveal shows a faster approach compared to earlier launches.

Power is expected to come from a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing around 190bhp and 320Nm of torque. This engine is likely to be paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. Volkswagen is also expected to offer its 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system, which should suit long highway drives and changing road conditions.

On the features front, the Tayron R-Line is will pack a digital instrument cluster, large touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car tech, panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, powered front seats, ambient lighting, and USB charging ports for all three rows.

The safety pack will include multiple airbags, electronic stability control, tyre pressure monitoring, 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, lane assist, autonomous emergency braking, and blind spot monitoring. Final details, variants, and pricing will be announced closer to launch as Volkswagen prepares its next big SUV for India.
