<p>Royal Enfield sold 1.04 lakh units overall, marking a 14% jump from 91,132 units sold in the same month last year.&nbsp;Compared to December 2025, the increase was modest, with sales up by just 0.72%. While the sales in the domestic market stood at 93,781 units,&nbsp;showing a 16% rise over 81,052 units sold in January 2025, the exports grew 5% year-on-year to reach 10,541 units, from 10,080 units. In the year-to-date period of 2026-25,&nbsp;Royal Enfield reported total sales of 10.25 lakh units, a gain of 25%&nbsp;from 8.18 lakh units sold in the same period last year. Domestic sales reached 9.16 lakh units,&nbsp;marking a 25% increase over 7.34 lakh units, while exports rose&nbsp;30% to 1.10 lakh units from 84,301 units a year ago.</p><p>Speaking about the performance for January 2026, B. Govindarajan, Managing Director - Eicher Motors Ltd. and Chief Executive Officer - Royal Enfield, said, 'The new year has begun on a positive note for Royal Enfield-  extending the strong momentum from the previous quarter and marking four consecutive months of healthy double-digit growth. <p>Honda Motorcycle &amp; Scooter India (HMSI) has reported total sales of 5.74 lakh two-wheelers in January,&nbsp;exhibiting a 29% year-on-year growth over last year’s 4.45 lakh units. The company’s&nbsp;domestic two-wheeler sales reached 5.20 lakh units, a 28.94% YoY increase, while&nbsp;exports surged by 30.96% to 54,832 units. On a year-to-date (YTD) basis for FY26&nbsp;(April 2025–January 2026), HMSI achieved cumulative sales of 52.53 lakh units,&nbsp;including 47.24 lakh units in the domestic market and 5.29 lakh units through exports.</p><h2>Honda 2W Month-Over-Month Performance</h2><p>Honda saw a sharp month-on-month (MoM) growth in January, with total two-wheeler sales rising by 28.78%. <p>Mahindra’s overall sales reached 1.04 lakh units, including exports, in January 2026,&nbsp;representing a 24% year-on-year rise. Of this, 63,510 SUVs and cars are sold domestically, marking a growth of 25% compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, the sales of commercial&nbsp;vehicles hit 27,656 sales domestically, a gain of 22%. For the year-to-date period ending January 2026, Mahindra’s domestic passenger vehicle sales stood at 5.40 lakh units, a growth of 19% over 4.53 lakh&nbsp;units last year.</p><p>According to Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO, Automotive Division, M&amp;M Ltd., 'Building on the strong momentum&nbsp;of last year's performance, we began the year on a strong note in January&nbsp;by achieving SUV sales of 63,510 units, a growth of 25%, and LCV&lt; 3.5T&nbsp;sales of 27,656 units, a growth of 22%. The total vehicle sales stand at 104,309 units, a 24% year-on-year growth. On 14th January, we opened bookings for XUV7XO and XEV 9S, clocking 93,689 bookings for a booking value of Rs 20,500 Crore&nbsp;- a record-breaking milestone in just 4 hours.'</p><h2>Mahindra January 2026 Commercial Vehicle Sales</h2><p>While the sales of LCVs (Light Commercial Vehicles) below 2 tons grew modestly by 13% month-on-month, their YTD sales slightly lagged last year. In contrast, the LCVs in the 2–3.5 ton range displayed strong momentum, with a 23% monthly&nbsp;increase and 17% year-to-date growth. Three-wheelers, including electric models,&nbsp;were the top performers, achieving 28% growth in both monthly and cumulative sales.</p><h2>Mahindra Export Performance in January</h2><p>The total exports of Mahindra last month stood at 3,577 units, showing a modest 5% increase compared to January 2025. This translated to a growth of 47.1% year-on-year.&nbsp;Of the total,&nbsp;70,222 units, including both ICE and electric models, were supplied in the domestic market,&nbsp;while 822 units were shipped overseas, representing a 46.1% and a 251.7% growth, respectively.</p><p>Electric cars continued to dominate the sales, with combined domestic and international deliveries reaching 9,052 units, a rise of 72.7% from 5,240 units sold in January 2025, highlighting the company's&nbsp;accelerating shift toward sustainable mobility.</p><h2>Other Highlights</h2><p>The Tata Punch crossed 7 lakh cumulative sales after selling more than 19,000 units&nbsp;in January 2026, claiming one of the fastest growth trajectories&nbsp;in its category. <p>Toyota Kirloskar Motor began 2026 on a strong note, posting 15% year-over-year growth in January. The company sold 33,880 units during the month, up from 29,371 units in January 2025. Breaking it down, the brand's domestic sales stood at 30,630 units last month, marking a 17% increase from last year's 26,178 units. Meanwhile, exports inched up marginally by 2% to 3,250 units, compared with 3,193 units in January 2025. Previously, excise duty was applied on the entire blended fuel,&nbsp;effectively double-taxing biogas and making green CNG more&nbsp;expensive than regular CNG. Skoda Kylaq Surpasses 50,000 Unit Production Milestone in India

The Kylaq closed December 2025 with 46,872 retail sales. The 50,000-unit production milestone was achieved in January 2026 on the back of fresh calendar-year output.

<p>After years of discussions, India and the European Union have finally agreed on a free trade deal, and this one has caught the attention of car buyers and auto industry watchers. The reason is simple. Europe builds many of the cars Indians want, while India remains one of the toughest markets in the world for imports due to high duties. The India–EU FTA aims to ease trade between both sides by cutting tariffs and simplifying regulations. For the auto sector, this could slowly change how European cars enter India. The agreement is expected to take effect from 2027. Under the newly concluded India–EU Free Trade Agreement, these tariffs will come down to 10 per cent under an annual quota of 250,000 vehicles. The deal, finalised after nearly two decades of negotiations, sets a clear framework for European car imports while keeping volumes under control.</p><p>One thing worth keeping in mind is that the lower tariff applies only to cars built in Europe. If a model is manufactured outside the EU, it will not get the benefit even if it wears a European badge. Take BMW for example. The M2 is built in Mexico, while the XM and X6 are manufactured in the USA, which means these models will not fall under the reduced duty structure.</p><h2>What does this Mean for Car Prices in India</h2><p>Lower import duties will bring down the landing cost, especially for fully imported models. Final pricing will still depend on brand strategy, exchange rates and state taxes. So while price drops may not happen overnight, the gap between imported and locally built cars is will shrink over time, giving buyers more choice and better value in the premium segment.</p><h2>Carmakers may Rethink their India Strategy</h2><p>The trade deal could push European brands to take a fresh look at their India plans after the tariff drop. With lower duties, it becomes easier to bring in more models and rethink pricing for the market. Some manufacturers may still prefer local assembly to keep costs in check, but the FTA gives brands more room when planning investments and future launches.</p><h2>Local Manufacturing and Suppliers Stay in Focus</h2><p>Indian component makers may face added competition, but there is also an opportunity. If more brands increase assembly operations, demand for&nbsp;locally sourced parts could rise. Suppliers that meet EU standards may even gain export access. Safeguard clauses in the agreement allow the government to step in if imports grow too fast, keeping local manufacturing protected as the deal is rolled out in phases.</p>
