autoX Awards 2023: Now in its second generation, the GLC has been one of the best-selling luxury SUVs in the Indian market, and rightfully so. While the new GLC has undergone a complete model transformation, its design, I think, reflects a rather cautious and safe approach by the Mercedes design team. Consequently, it has pleasing yet somewhat predictable aesthetics. Mercedes could’ve added a little more flair to make the GLC stand out in its SUV line-up. However, the narrative swiftly changes the moment you delve into its interior design. The inclusion of large screens, excellent finishing, and captivating lighting collectively cultivate an unmistakable sense of opulence and offer an immersive luxury experience. Furthermore, its optimal size makes the GLC an ideal choice for a nuclear family, offering ample room for four adults, albeit with a slightly compromised space for the middle passenger due to the transmission tunnel, and enough boot space for family trips. At the same time, it’s not large enough to make you feel uncomfortable in urban traffic.

In its new avatar, the Mercedes-Benz GLC comes with mild hybrid powerplants in both diesel and petrol forms. We tested the petrol version with the hybrid system – it was not only powerful but also extremely refined, which is evident from its commendable score in the refinement category. The overall high quality of its interior further accentuates its appeal and makes it a great place to spend time. Additionally, the all-wheel drive system seamlessly and efficiently translates the power to the road, evidenced by its decent lap time in the test.
