Mahindra has entered a new segment with the XEV 9S — India’s first three-row electric SUV, launched at ₹19.95 lakh. With no direct rival in the market right now, Mahindra is clearly aiming to bring families into the EV space without pushing prices into premium territory.
In this first look, Karan breaks down what makes the XEV 9S different from the XEV 9e, how Mahindra has adapted the XUV700’s body for an electric platform, and whether the three-row layout actually works in real life.
Inside, the 9S gets one of the most tech-heavy cabins in the segment with three 12.3-inch displays, connected services, OTT apps, premium audio and a long list of creature comforts. But how usable is all of this tech on the move? And do the second and third rows match the expectations of family buyers transitioning from ICE SUVs?
Power comes from 59kWh and 79kWh battery options, with the top-spec variant producing 280bhp and 380Nm. Mahindra claims 7 seconds to 0–100 km/h and a top speed of 202 km/h, making the XEV 9S one of the quickest electric family SUVs in this price bracket.
If you’re shopping for a spacious family EV, considering an upgrade from the XUV700, or simply curious about how Mahindra is shaping its EV line-up, this review will give you the clarity you need.
